  • Looking for advise on Glass

Hey all! I'm back and doing pretty well.
I'm looking for some info on scopes for a friend of mine that has a Winchester .243 and he is looking to put a quality piece of glass on it. He will probably be maxing out 400 yards. He has allowed for a budget of about $600. I've never spent that much on a scope so I have little knowledge when it comes to high quality glass. My Burris is my best scope. lol
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't care what "they" say but still love Leupolds. Tried and true. Assuming this is a hunting rifle?

I also have a Trijicon, which I suppose is more of a tactical scope but it's crystal clear.

Winchester .243 bolt action. I believe he is just using it for target shooting. Maybe a woodchuck or something but he doesn't hunt deer or any other game I am aware of. Yeah those Leupold's do look like nice scopes. I wait to see what other suggestions are made but I may tell him to go with a Leupold.
          Looking on-line I see opticsplanet.com has the Leupold FX-3 30-40mm open box for $599.
          Keep those opinions coming..

This is my Trijicon which I would highly recommend in terms of its solidness and clarity. It also has a fiberoptic, mil-dot and 2nd focal plane reticle which is kind of neat. List is $925 but optics planet has it below for $699 with free shipping. I saw it on Amazon for $640 with free shipping but it didn't have a direct link to supplier. This is a top-of-the-line scope and crystal clear. He may want a bit more magnification going out to 400 yrds though. This is 3x9. The larger scope 5x20 is a lot more money though.

That said, I'm sure a decent Leupold would be fine and wouldn't set him back as much. Can't wait to hear what Mek says...

900$(lol) or 15$..all got to do with your eyesight and steadiness of your arms..hitting bulls at 120yards with (non-respectable)Tascos or hitting (or) missing bulls with 900$ scopes.. I got 20/20 eyes and multiple scopes, my cheapest is still just as clear and perfect as my most expensive. But this isn't my argument..this is the argument for the "status, name brand" money burning peeps. I hit what I hit because I practice practice practice..even a monkey can hit a bull at 100yards with a bench a shooting pad a chair with a BB gun scope or a military scope..infact it's actually kinda getting boring to the point were I stand and took 2 scopes off 2 rifles, just to make it interesting again lol
