  • AK's for dummys

any big time AK/saiga guys here? looking to convert just the hand guard, gas block and FSB on my saga to allow the use of standard ak hand guards, cleaning rod and maybe a threaded barrel.

i know i need a hand guard retainer, gas tube, hand guard gas block, cleaning rod and FSB but since I'm new to this whole platform its not like just going to PSA and ordering the crap.

also are all FSB, gas tubes and gas blocks the same? i wouldn't think that russian, polish etc... would be much different but who knows.

on a side note, i learned tonight that my saiga is a more sought after model with the receiver dimples, pinned gas block, fab and the barrel is already machined for the hand guard retainer.

don't we all? I'm going to be ordering a bullet guide and some 10rd ak mags soon to get away from the ridiculously expensive saiga mags.

heres a fun filled fact! looking on some old forums i see that in 2007 some people were complaining about spending 290.00 on a saiga... in 2014 we spend at MINIMUM 600.00

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

so I've been curious to see if my rifle has a threaded barrel or not. Last night I tried driving out the pins that hold the fsb to the barrel and holy Peshitta! I bent a hardens steel punch and didn't even move the pin a millimeter! I'm almost tempted to cut the shroud off but then I'll have exposed threads

Yeah, AKs have a reputation for being tough for a reason. I have done pushups off AK magazines with the feed lips down. Didn't bend at all. I wouldn't try that with an AR magazine.

My friend has a WASR-10. He claims it's a Kalashnikov made AK that is only semiauto and imported by WASR. I don't know much about AKs. I know his safety selector has a cut to hold the operating lever back. I thought that was handy. I'd like an AK eventually... but it's pretty far down the list of wants.

The tapco are the brick and mortar for the saiga but if you want something classic and still nicer than the original look at troup systems.

You have one version that is the beefier thumb-hole that you can cut on the top to open it and then with the front handguard
above you are in compliance of BS SAFE. These come unfinished and you could choose a very nice burgundy oil finish or even
a light pine toast if this is what you like. The wood is all made int he US so that counts as two US made parts. Add teh trigger group and
                you have five.

Nah, you always gotta keep the vodka in the freezer.

Sometimes there is nothing like...da booze, hard tits and a Kalashnikov. LOL
