  • Design Concept AR NY Stock

My latest design...uses an off the shelf Magpul butt pad. Would still like to incorporate a magazine pocket on the underside.
Been working with foam and cardboard mock ups. This give use of thumb safety, and large enough relief for the web on the hand for a good finger purchase on the trigger.

Comparison with overlays of pistol grip plus FRS.

Need to determine parting line for top and bottom fiberglass lay ups. This is to incorporate a hollow so it's not solid resin.
Working now on Solidworks .stl files so might be able to get 3D printed.

    Seeking advice on fiberglass fabrication.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm the first to admit I don't know enough about this stuff but I recall reading something if the angle of the grip is too close to a standard grip it would be deemed a pistol grip. This was a while back and I don't remember source. Just recommending you look into it before committing a lot of resources behind this project. That said I think your design is better than most of what I've seen from these sort of things and I'd definitely would purchase a few if they were deemed legal. Nice work!

As you can see from the overlay and thumbnail, the Volquartsen target rifle stock, I used as a design reference actually has a more vertical curve to the upper part of it's grip than my design has. So would you call this wood stock on a 10/22 an assault rifle?

No, but I wouldn't call a 10/22 with a collapsible stock and a pistol grip an assault rifle either (unless of course it had select fire and shot centerfire cartridges). Then again, I'm not the one you need to worry about...

**** NY Compliance! But nice work, but as Cgrunt suggested its not the literal definition of pistol grip you need to worry about its the liberal definition. But if your selling stocks and not a complete rifle you don't have to worry about whether its deemed legal its up to the buyer with what level of risk they are willing to accept. To me if you are using the stock it shows a good faith effort in trying to comply and I would buy one for my builds.

My Mossberg MVP stock and 2 of my Boyds varmint stocks are way move vertical than your design. I will take one in black, where do I send my money?

If you take these to production I'm in for at least 2.

Definitely post updates, if deemed legal, I'm in. Far better than what is out there.
I must say I love beavers.
