We need to learn more aobut the final product from this long development but it seems the rifle
is testing really well.

IMO I don't get why they didn't look at the mazing LMT like the Brits but I guess there is something unique here.

They are cool guns for sure. From my understanding there are a lot of proprietary parts and the HK variants don't match up with ar10/15's. Hard for me to consider a $2000+ shootin' iron.

I still think that the service round for NATO should be a 6mm almost identical in size to the 5.56.
Even the 6x45 would fill the gap very well. The 308 is too much for light infantry troops.
The way the brits use the 308 is very smart, they have one or two in every unit to give support
at long range, aside from the gunners of course. They created a new 155gr round for the LMT
that is a very good idea IMO due to the size of the carbine.
Otherwise is a waste. The 6.8spc2 would be a much better alternative in that case.

Yeah. Round size is a different conversation than what I expected this was about. Unfortunately those decisions are made for reasons other than objective data.

When you think aobut it we could produce a superior round using the same bolt face we have for the 5.56, almost the same length and also a 6mm bullet.
Something very close to the current casing. Essentially one could increase the base by 5 to 10 thousands and keep a 44mm case and have a slightly
rebated at the rim. Based on the performance of the 6x45 wildcat with the current case, this should not be a significant increase in back thrust, it should
take 2 or 3 grains of extra powder and will allow for superior 80gr-90gr bullets.
