Arisaka in 308

Ok so buddy has a Arisaka rechambered in 308 (newer barrel), sniper bent bolt handle and is in a bishop stuck that is sanded just needs to be stained

What range is this thing worth? $150? $500? Pretend we know it's in average shape. Typical for vintage but cared for.

Rechambered classics loose value so aim low I would say tops $200 in good condition possibly a bit more $250 otherwise find a spanish mauser in 308w in good condition. I would have to be spotless for me to give more than $150 or $180 and demonstrate the conversion is well done with proper feeding and function. Otherwise is a waste and always avoid late end of war models that some were terrible including steel quality and treatment.

Yea I figured tell him to ask $150-$180 from what I saw on gunbroker. I know nothing about them besides the caliber they were originally in was/is tough to find so the conversion was semi popular.

Not my cup of tea but who am I to judge.

I am no expert in classics neither but I know when you convert them and oruginal parts are gone their original collectors value is gone. So then is a matter of how good the rifle is but it could be and old remi o r marlin or savage ..same thing. At least with a 700 or savage 10 one knows that is easy to maintain also mausers but with classics aftermaket for any parts can be tricky depending on what rifels of course. Folks rhey get into mosins because they are dirt cheap and bulk ammo too but they dont shoot schit so in the end you get what you pay for. One can sporterize one buy one can also buy a savage 10 that soots like the house is on fire out o f the box and some very good prices... so you know....I guess folks like to do their weekend little reenhancement of the enemy at the gates.. lol
