What I mean is, with this sudden interest in the manufacturers for producing these bolt guns, are the powers that be hoping we'll be happy with these and forget about the fact that many of us have very restrictive laws concerning the exact same rifle in semi-auto? Or am I just being silly?

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

You're being silly. Competitition long distance shooting is owned by bolt guns. Few run gas guns and some of them who were have gone to bolt action.
I don't think the resemblance to an AR has much to do with Ruger's design other than being able to use off the shelf rails. Otherwise the look is just following present trends in design for precision rifles. Another modern gun as ARs are modern guns that politics are denying us.Last edited by PY-Tactical; 07-22-2015, 05:51 PM.

OK, I guess I am being silly. It does look pretty scary though, might be easy to demonize these the way they did AR's? (a Remmy 700 in wood will never scare an anti-gunner).Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

Tube guns are nothing new. This seems to provide some nice features fir the money however there are a few things that will be an issue for some people.
- the scope mount is aluminum. Steel is a must have for heavy optics and constant pounding.
- the forward rail is not in line with the canted scope mount. This will make dificult to mount forward devices in the same optical axis.
-with the capability to provide easy barrel swap many new makers are coming out with floating bolt heads like the classic savage design. This reduces the cost to rebarrel alternative calibers and gives access to nearly any commercial caliber and many wildcats wo having to buy and entire bolt group.
- accuracy seems in the same league as some other out of the box precission rifles but some might find this one cooler. The savage pc is a good example.
Overall seems like good value but only time will dictate how it stands against well stablished platforms also available in tube gun chasis and this includes the r700 and savage 10.It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Ruger made a lot of really smart moves with this rifle. Using many AR components and adding the flexibility to use a variety of types of magazines will definitely help sell this rifle. Add an accuracy guaratee and a reasonable price point and I'm pretty sure they're looking to disrupt the market. It will be interesting to see if this forces competitors to adapt in ways that benefit the consumer. Who's going to pay $3k for an AR31 that doesn't come with an accuracy guarantee if they can get a RPR for under $1300?Last edited by WARFAB; 07-25-2015, 10:47 PM.

I am primed to buy one but the initial shipments have dried up. Yeah, you can find on GB or AL for hundreds over MSRP but waiting a few months and you should find for $1,000 to $1,100.
So looks like September at the earliest to find one at a reasonable cost.
Nice would be a 6.5 CM for range work and a .308, (swap out the stock for a Magpul fixed rifle stock,) for a hunting rifle.
