  • Black powder rifle kits

I suppose the first gun I ever owned was a black powder kit given to me as a present by one of my dad's friends when I was about 13. Imagine that today lol. Anyway it was a flint lock. Believe 50 cal. Heavy octagonal barrel. Nice brass pieces for stock etc. Parts were cut to fit but needed to be sanded, stained and finished. Barrel needed to be blued and drilled for the spark hole (don't know technical term). Everything pretty much needed to be assembled from ground up. I did a half assed job of finishing the wood parts (being 13 and all). Never drilled the spark hole. Never blued the barrel. Hung it on my wall and there it sat unfired for many, many years. I don't even know what happened to it. My brother probably sold it for god knows what.

Anyways thinking about this and would like to give it another shot. They still sell kits like this? Where to begin?

AHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh, Like chicken pox, the infection may return later in life, of a more virulent form! Today going to the dark side (black powder) has been made even easier by those that want to share this wonderful affliction. Their are many suppliers of parts, parts that can be made into guns, partially finished guns and of course completely finished guns. It really depends on how involved you want to get. I have no experience making one from a 'kit' but coming from a few fellows that have made some beautiful guns from them, http://www.flintlocks.com has the best quality 'kit's' in the business. I think they sell a CD that helps guide one through the construction.

http://nmlra.org/awpcp/show-ad/12/ti...37049/barrels/ Tip Curtis, Heard a lot of good stuff on this guy too. All levels of finished guns from parts, to ready to go.

If you are looking for something that you can just finish off the wood, metal, and assemble, I have been told these are good shooters. http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/m...ains-rifle.php

Let me know if you need help with anything.
