  • Looked at the Ares SCR today and thinking about the Troy PAR

Took a trip down to the local dealer to handle a scr. I was thinking about ordering one but wanted to handle it 1st. 1st impressions are kinda meh. The main reason I say MEH is because putting sights on it is gonna be an issue. Any kind of flip up or fixed ar type irons are going to be way to high. A scope will also be to high. I say to high because I don't like chin welds. About the only thing its good to mount on it would be a mini red dot and even then it may be just a touch higher then I would like but workable. I liked the way the gun felt bu the stock is just to low for its intended uses which is AR stuff. IDK I think they need a slight redesign on the stock. If that happens it could be a great rifle.

After looking at the scr with a meh attitude he then tried to sell me a 3k black rain ordinance "compliant" ar. It's a nice rifle minus the crappy stock etc etc. Nothing I would ever consider for 3k. I could build 3 sick rifles from PSA for that.

My next option i'm considering is that Troy PAR (pump action ar). I like how it looks like an ar, takes some ar parts, ergonomic like an ar, can use ar optics and sights etc etc etc. The folding stock is pretty cool also. I would prefer a semi but I think this is the next best thing to feed my ar itch for now.

Or should I just skip both those guns and get a M1 Carbine from fulton armory?
They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

Snowflakes are great!!! You can roll them around into a giant mass and shove a carrot in their ........

I have tried the troy PAR. Not a good firearm. It offers nothing other than looks (relative subject). Even just as a pump looking at it pragmatically it is not a well executed firearm.
If you want a bolt action or pump that takes AR magazines there are better options. Also autoloaders that take AR magazines including a Ny compliant AR.
...I mean unless it is just for looks and show and tell...

There are autoloading, bolt and pump systems that have been round for a long time with proven reliability and smooth actions...

It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

It's mostly for looks, ergonomics and ease of use. Gimme that feeling of having an AR but staying legal without those awful stocks and no features!

I'm not a huge fan of bolt actions as I have tried the savage #10 PC and didn't like it. I have a mini 14 that is garbage. It's been to ruger twice and finally I sent it to accuracy systems to fix it and upgrade it for the price of $1,100. It's not back from them yet. I want something battle rifleish that takes detachable mags. I like the PAR cause it fills that void for me and I have lots of 223 to shoot and its cheap.

Edit cause you added pics: The remington 7615's are OK I guess but they are not made anymore. They are also expensive and I think more so then the troy is. Plus I feel the ergonomics of the troy is better because it models the ar.

I have also shot these mossberg bolt guns before and not happy with them. I think the mag wells are sloppy. I have witnessed them having issued picking up rounds from the mags and jamming. The bolts also have a lot of slop in them and that spring piece that picks up the rounds leaves a lot to be desired. Also i'm looking for more of a battle rifle not a bolt action with a scope.

I like high scope mounts, but that is me. I don't understand why they don't offer a high cheek rest stock...doesn't make sense.

That scr can come with a monte carlo style stock but in all the images shown its not any higher then the normal stock

What if I said I ordered the PAR like 10 minutes ago because I saw it on aim surplus as a special for $839 with free ship!!!! Next closest place is buds at 913 cash price. I think it's worth a shot anyways.

I said screw it. If I don't like it then I should be able to get my money back for that price. I think it will be pretty sick.

I know this guy can be long winded and yada yada yada but I have always appreciated his opinions. He isn't just a clown and started a youtube channel to blow stuff up etc. He actually has a background. The video is long but you can skip around and check it out. I'm pretty impressed with accuracy and how well the gun seems to operate. The pump seems very smooth. I'm excited to have something that resembles an ar again that is ergonomically pleasing to me and can be fired fast. I like how the stock folds and makes the package small.
