  • Anybody want to talk 22 Hornet

Bought a bunch after passage of unSAFE but never got the gun to go with it. My boy is getting to that age where I want to give him something special. The kind of thing he'll treasure for the rest of his life and pass down to his kids. Thinking this might be the round to go with. Old school yet capable. Never forget your roots.

So only parameters is its got to be bolt and wood stock. Yeah composites are probably better but we're talking a treasures keepsake from father to son.

Like to keep it under $2,500 with glass.

Coopers of Montana is on my short list...

i own a ruger 77 in a hornet. it's a good round for what it is. but if it were me and spending that much money i would bump up the shooting range. if you still want a classic round and willing to reload i would look into rem 222. it was an inherently accurate round used on varmints for years. if you want to step it up further there's the 22-250 or 243. just know how kids are, they want more power and don't want him saying later i wish i had a _____ .

I have been himming and hawing over a 22 hornet bolt action for some time. I have never pulled the trigger though. I would love to reload for it. But 223 is so plentiful now, I am not sure it makes sense, 22 hornet ammo is not easy to find.
