Sorry if this isn't the appropriate forum but I didn't see anything specifically related to optics so I figured that I would post this here. If money was not a concern, what would you consider the best red dot sight? I realize this is probably an overly broad question but I'm thinking about getting one and have heard good things about Trijicon, EOTech and Aimpoint. Was curious what others on here thought. It would be going on a rifle.

I don't really have experience with red dots but have heard really good things about Eotech and I think in years past at least they were the benchmark.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I am sure someone else will chime in with better info.www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

If I had an ebr, which I don't, it would have an Aimpoint M2 on it, my eyes are getting old and I need to big 4 moa dot. If I had a 308 battle rifle like a HK/CETME if would probably have a Millet dot on it, it's 3 moa and kinda nice for the monies I hear. I have peered throught Eortechs also, they are cool too. And for the monies it's hard to beat the Vortex strike fire

thebangswitch did a pretty good writeup (3 parts) on a whole bunch of different "budget" red dots

I have had the opposite experience on Trijicon
I bought a suplused one from SOG, it rocked, the Tritium was incredibly bright, and the optic was definitely battle-hardy from the scars on it
it zeroed perfectly, well, at least for a Dot sight, and had a useful range indicator
that said, I have an Aimpoint Pro, and a Eotech
I prefer the Aimpoint
if money is no object, perhaps to look in a different direction, I really like the canuk Elcan opticssic semper boogaloo

I love my eotechs. Anything that I can run one on I will. I really like the fine 1 moa dot they have and the large viewing window. For a more traditional red dot rube style I have had great luck with the vortex sparc. I think for the money they are the best red dot. Of course aimpoints are going to be good but the vortex for $200 is every bit as good and will work on the same mounts etc. They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!
Snowflakes are great!!! You can roll them around into a giant mass and shove a carrot in their ........

OK, so I bit the bullet and got the EOTech. It just arrived today. The unit itself seems to be ok but I'm having trouble mounting it to my picitinny/weaver rail. I have the adjustment nut loosened as far as it will go and the quick detach lever is disengaged. For some reason, it just won't fit. Really bizarre thing is that when I turn it around (so that the battery compartment is facing the wrong way) it fits just fine. Snug as a bug in a rug! Is there something wrong with the sight, my rail hardware...both?

That rail isn't mil spec. It has no under cut to the rail on the left side next to the curve on the mount. Just want to give you some advice also. You are going to have a real tough time getting a sight picture with a good cheek weld. Sight is set way too high. The sight is way too close and won't give you a good sight picture. I would say get a dust cover type rail to get it lower and forward more or a gas tube type rail to mount it on. Hope this helps.I bought my sons out of state.
