  • Childhood .243

Back in 1977 when I was 12 my dad bought me a Remington 700 BDL in .243. I have had this gun my whole life, and it is one of..if not my most...favorite guns that I have ever owned.

I decided to get the action and barrel re-blued as it was worn from riding in rack mounts in my dads CJ over the years.

Next I put a custom stock on it, and added a Weaver Tactical 4-20x 50 along with a Harris bipod, then converted it to a box magazine system.

I found an old picture where you can see the barrel is all messed up. Bluing is coming off everywhere.

Here's what it looks like now:

I couldn't stand that red tab on the Butler Creek scope cover so I painted it metallic grey.

    Looks great man!!

Such a simple way to get rid of those bright colored cap releases. Got rid of the front site too?

How's that new stock treating you?

Oh yeah, right...forgot. Had to get the open sights removed also to accept the scope.

Damn Weaver discontinued the sun shades for their super slam series, which the Tactical is part of, so I had to go online, and all I could find was a silver one. So, with some Rust-Oleum paint, I matched it as best as I could. Not too shabby.

So far the new stock is pretty cool, but only time will tell. The old one is still doing great after 30+ years. I just wanted to spruce things up.

Now I'm working on load development because after all these years of loading Nosler Solid Base 85gr over 37.5 gr of IMR 3031, I find out that Nosler discontinued those heads years ago. I had a large stash that is now close to the end.

I put down deer, coyotes, chucks, and fox with ease with that load.

Now I'm testing the 85gr partition, and 90 gr accubond.

The Speer 85gr failed the jug test. Caught it in the second jug, and it was disintegrated. Zero mass left.

              I hate having to change...ahhhh.

They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!

Snowflakes are great!!! You can roll them around into a giant mass and shove a carrot in their ........

It looks awesome. that thing is probably better than the new ones that come with burr marks and QC is not there anymore the way it used to be.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

Yes, it was made during their golden years. I have some reloading questions for you, but I will start another thread to address it.
