  • Don’t leave your cleaning jag in the barrel! **Warning Graphic**

Ouch! That’s all I can say about this kB posted to AR15.com. Bore obstructions are absolutely no joke.
The rifle was a Contender, apparently chambered in .17 VHA (5.7×28 necked down to .17 caliber).

I bought my sons out of state.

I was trying to sight in a PSL a few years back and have a laser bore sight you screw in the end of barrel with the expanding rubber tip to keep it tight. I got frustrated with it as it was really bright outside and couldn't see the laser dot. I then got distracted and forgot to take it out the end of barrel and fired the rifle. Somehow everything managed to be ok except for the bore site. I don't think I ever found a piece of that thing. It vaporized lol

Whoa! Thats disconcerting. I've always been pretty meticulous about being sure the barrel is clear. This will make me even more so!

OUCH! I once forgot to put a bullet into my muzzleloader when I was shooting at the range. All that was in the barrel was three Pyrodex 50 grain pellets. The rifle made a quiet 'THUUMP' noise, and the three pellets flew out of the end of the barrel on fire about 25 yards. It took over two hours to get the gun clean when I got back home. LOL

Wow. kudos to putting up pictures so someone else will learn from his mistake. Not a pretty sight.

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

Some make some nice artistic designs. Always wear glasses! I see more people all over shooting w/o a good pair of glasses.

I rarely shoot with glasses. I have like 3 pairs and they all fog up after about 1 shot!

Ouch, as a reloader I always worry about chit like this. Nothing like having a casing without powder sending a squib into the barrel then having a follow up shot exploding the barrel on you. I have nightmares about this crap.

I have witnessed 3 squibs with factory ammo in my life and luckily each time the shooter thought something was off and crisis was averted thankfully. I agree though, I am very cautious about that stuff!
