Did he manage to pick something up before all the coronavirus craziness started? If not, it's probably going to be difficult now.

Late to the game with this but agree with camper4lyfe 1st needs to figure out what he wants it for and 2nd if answer to 1 is home defense/range plinking etc I'd take a long look at the Mossberg MVP. Full disclosure I don't own one but if I were doing it all over again, the MVP would be on the short list for first purchase. 5.56/.223 with AR mags. Also available in 7.62/.308 if he's looking to hunt large game with it.

Yeah the mvp was definitely on the short list! Good recommendation

unfortunately he didnt get on this soon enough and now i think he's probably SOL because of his hesitation and the new situation

A advice against the mossberg MVP based on the following:

They are good value but not cheaper than other alternatives.
the action is weaker than lets say a savage, remington or winchester

A savage comes built in by design with a capability to swap bolt heads, barrels and calibers and parts are plentiful and widely available with a huge aftermarket including the capability to take other magazines.

But the real advantage is in its barrel quality and accuracy for the price and to also take Accuracy international magazines that is the best magazine ever
devised for a bolt action system. Magpul has the stock for it.

It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

              AICS magazines are also expensive.
