  • Upper Builds

I have a couple naked lowers, and I can't decide what I want to do for uppers for them. One of my stumbling blocks is that I'm not sure what to look for as far as parts and compatibility between calibers.

I currently have an 18" stainless barreled upper in 5.56. It was more or less pieced together over time and sales. I could pull up the specs if anyone wanted to know.

I'm thinking a dedicated .22LR upper for S&G's. I may end up just buying a complete upper for that. If not, that one obviously needs a specific bolt/carrier, barrel, and mag/adapter. Anything else specific?

I'm also thinking something in the 6.5 range to hunt with. Again, standard lower and LPK, I'm assuming a different mag is required? What about the upper? Obviously it would need a 6.5 barrel (I'm thinking something in the 16" range for weight and carrying it through the woods). Am I looking for a 6.5 specific bolt? Or do I need to entire 6.5 BCG?

    Any input?

Assume you're referring to the "baby" 6.5...Grendel? The big boy 6.5 (Creedmoor) requires an AR10 lower.

Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

Yes, grendel. I was back and forth between that and the 6.8 SPC, and it appears the 6.5 is a bit better.

Ah PePeshittata. Maybe not. Maybe I’ll go with the 6.8. Every time I read something I see something that makes me change my mind. I want a shorter/lighter barrel and what I just found says the 6.8 works better out of short barrels while the 6.5 is better with long barrels.

This is why I haven’t built anything. I just can’t make up my mind lol.

At minimum, intended usage is deer hunting with maybe 100-200 yd shots. I don’t know that I’d be capable enough to shoot out farther than that.

Old family farm. Lots of logging trails and old field roads.

And that 100-200 is a maximum distance. I know, I worded it a little funny.
