  • AR and AR-10

Ok I am thinking of maybe getting a AR or AR 10,But I have been out of the loop on the gun laws for awhile and what was needed to be NY legal to own AR or AR-10 So I really would like to get my hands on one of the 2 I mentioned mainly just for target shooting.

If I do buy it would not be till maybe late February if by then I can afford one,So I like to know can I still buy and have a AR or AR-10 ? I know it will not have all the features of what the tradition AR's looked like,I just really missed owning the ones I had and really would like to get another one if I could...

From what I can remember if I had the FRS-15 Stock or one that had just a plain rifle stock with out the pistol grip you could own one and also only had a magazine limit of 10 rounds I would be NY compliant....What is the going price on one and where could one be bought,I know of one place close buy about 50 miles away I can check that might have them but will need to check..

Thank You for any info you can give me..

I could probably could get away with a 52 inch shaft but if I could get a 54 inch shaft that would be great as I could always adjust the length of the shaft

If it is semi auto with detachable magazine it cannot have any so called "evil" features. No muzzle device, no pistol grip, no collapsible stock etc. If Magazine is pinned it would appear features are ok but then again nobody within NYS.gov will give you a clear and unambiguous answer. What else would you expect?

Personally if it's just for target shooting I'd look into a Mossy MVP or similar. You can have all the features you want with a bolt and it can be a tack driver. Don't own one but have shot my BILs and it's a great gun at decent price. Takes AR mags but of course you're limited to 5s or 10s in this God forsaken state. FUAC

Cgrutt as much as agree with you on this, I just really want to buy another AR-15 come mid February as I really missed having all the ones that I did have and I swore to myself that when I did have the money I was going to buy another one no matter how much that I hate what happened to all of here in NY..

Now that I have found out that Dark Storms sells 2 different type of AR-15 and they are both NY Safe Act Complaint..I just need to choose which one I like the most..I also need to find a FFL near me to do the transfer or I might take a 6 hr road trip which I not to keen on as they are on Long Island and I really do not like going out that way especially the traffic, so I hoping someone near me or at least around the Saratoga Spring area would be the best as I know the area fairly good,If anyone knows of anyone in the Saratoga Springs area that will do the transfer and will not charge a fortune please let me know, There was someone out in Schenectady,NY that did a transfer for me a couple times but I can not remember there name..

The first AR-15 looks like this it has the FRS-15 Stock with detachable 10 round Magazine there is absolutely no other features on this rifle..

The next one is a AR-15 That has a pinned 10 round magazine that allows the rifle to have some features such as a collapsible stock, pistol grip and flash hider. and will be NY Safe Act Compliant. Now with a pinned magazine I would have to break down the rifle to reload the rifle but I did find a product that would work and I would not have to break down the riffle to reload. It is called the MA Loader for AR-15 which would make the AR really nice to load..

The hardest part for me will be picking the right one I really want and choosing a color I like the best,The colors I can choose from is FDE,ODG,Black and Grey and last would be a all Black AR-15.. As of right now I been leaning toward the Black and Grey AR-15..

Here is a video of how the MA Loader for AR works..

Bob Bump at Firefly is in Schenectady. Great guy. Haven't talked to him in a while so don't know if he is still there or doing FFL transfers. He had been planning on moving south IIRC.
