  • Brief history of M14 rifle

    Good read.

Never really thought much about it before but found it interesting that decision to switch from .30-06 to 7.62x51 NATO (and later to 5.56x45 NATO) was driven mostly by weight. Less weight = more rounds that a soldier could carry into battle. Makes sense.

Weight was a big factor but I'm told that the other major influence was getting into the NATO round that was compliant with the Allies
Cgrutt, I am now into multiple rifle types for competition and collecting and I must say the M14/M1A is my favorite. My primary match rifle is a 1000 yard gun that is all gussied up and needs a pit crew to take of but its still a pleasure to compete with. Recently I was blessed to have a Devine 14 cross my path for the right price and scooped it up. Need to get it to the range and stretch her legs!
