  • The story of the almost purchased FNX-9

So the Hamburg gun show was this weekend, and I was all ramped up to go. I had been eyeing an FNX-9 for about a year and had saved all my pennies. Sat morning came, I was up at 9 and ready to go by 11. Though I couldn't leave just yet, I had to wait for my wife. This was something we were going to do together. You know, walk around, get lunch, generally have a good time. Unfortunately, the wife wasn't feeling well the night before so she didn't wake up till 1. There was no way we were going to make it today.
There was still hope Sunday was another day, I woke at 7. Took care of the dog, had my coffee, finished my homework and was ready to go by 10. Just had to wait for the wife... There was hope she was awake by 10 asking me if I want to still go? "He'll yes", was my reply. She said breakfast was on the table and she getting ready. So I ate and then waited. And waited. 11am. 12pm. 12:30pm, **** this is never going to happen. It was like anticipating sex for the first time. 1pm we were out the door. Woo-hoo. I took off like, a normal person because there are too many crazies on the road. So we arrived and parking and walking, then getting our tickets. Damn we were finally in 1:45pm.
We made our way around the tables starting at the far end. Moving normally, browsing, trying to not look like a rabbid dog hunting a rabbit. We started up the third row of tables, then something caught my eye in one of the cases. It was an FNH, but alas it was an fnx-45. Just I asked to see it just to get a feeling of how it would fit in my hand. It felt great perfect fit. Nice textured grip to help keep it in your hand, weight get good. It was a really nice piece but it wasn't the FNX-9. So I handed it back and started to walk some morning telling my wife that it was almost the right.... I stopped mid sentence and mid step, same table two cases down. There it was the FNX-9, my face lite up like I had just seen boobs for the first time. I asked to see it, almost drooling. The gentleman opened the case and said "go ahead, pick it up." It mated to my hand perfectly. I pointed it in a safe direction, racked the side and looked into an unmolested chamber. Then I dropped the mag and let the side right forward by way or ambi release. I had never had a pistol with a left hand release. It feel amazing, it felt natural. I point the weapon in a safe direct, with a two handed grip. Look down the sights and see that they had the glow. The glow of night sights. I had found the one. I talked to the guy for 2 mins, told him I wanted it and I would be back. I walked over to the office where Erie County PP was to see if they could add the pistol but this is where it all falls apart. They closed at two and that process needed to be started 15min before close. I looked at my cell phone 2:55pm. Noooooooooooooo.
The guy worked out of his house in Rochester. I didn't feel good about letting him leave with my money and only having a tag to show for it. Needless to say I walked around the rest of the show as it closed down. So sad...
Someday, someday soon, I will find another just like it and it shall be mine!!!!!!

I'd have suggested finding the show organizers and ask them if they know the guy and basically see if they'd give a character reference. The reality of it is the guy obviously has an FFL and it couldn't possibly be worth losing it for the sale of one gun.

See if Collector in Hopewell Junction can get you one. They have great cash prices.

Great story I just wish it had a happier ending. I can't even imagine the dropping feeling in your chest when you realized you couldn't get it that day.

Sounds like it's still worth that wait to you. Good luck!

Did you get the name of the seller? Someone on the forum might know him.

Well, not as good of a deal as at the gun show, but I ordered one through a local seller.
