  • M&P, Pro, Core?

I am looking for a nice 9 mm competition full size. I have kind of narrowed it down to the M&P line. I am researching the Pro and the CORE. The pro is nice and pretty much what I am looking for except that the core has the ported barrel. I am in a loop here. I want the pro sights but the core ports. I don't want the. Core raised sights. Which would you choose?

I have no experience with either of these guns but it ports are important to you then just change the sights on the core to what you want. I'm sure sights are cheaper/easier to change than getting porting done

      I'd choose a Steyr L9.

I'm biased, but I'm not the only one. Plenty of reviews support the claim that Steyr has the nicest factory trigger of any striker fired pistol. It can also be upgraded easily and cheaply with parts from Big Taco. Ergonomics are excellent, and it has a short trigger reset. The only complaint I've ever heard about Steyr pistols is that the trigger reset can't be felt as easily as a Glock. As an added bonus Steyrs are less expensive. The price will probably be a wash if you don't like Steyr factor sights though.

The Pro and Core do look pretty sweet. You'll have to let us know what you decide and post some reviews after you get it.

i assume you are planning on shooting a division where the ported barrel would even be legal?

There is no question about the legality of a ported barrel. I know of no law prohibiting ported barrels in The Peoples Republic of New Yorkistan. Threaded barrels however are prohibited.

I think big flash was talking about competition rules, not New York State laws.

yeah, i didn't mean that kind of legality.

just that i don't think IDPA allows ported barrels at all (if i remember correctly, i don't shoot IDPA).
USPSA only allows them in certain divisions, like in 'open' or 'limited' for example. in which case you'd be up against heavier all metal guns.
in production class, where you usually see more of these plastic guns (not meant to be derogatory as I'm a big fan), ported barrels aren't permitted at all.

Sorry, I took the statement the completely wrong way. I will be shooting in a small combat pistol league. Just double checked ported barrels are not allowed. Plus 45 acp is getting a little bit expensive to shoot on a weekly basis lol. Ordered the pro today.

Awesome, you shouldn't be disapointed. I've toyed with buying one myself but haven't pulled the trigger. I have shot a couple of them though and loved them.
                    sounds like an awesome league!

250 rounds through it today and all I can say is that this gun is well worth every penny.
