  • Question on 1911 Range Officer/Remington R1 Enhanced

Trying to make a decision on my first 1911 and I have narrowed it down to the Remington R1 Enhanced or the SA Range Officer. Just wanting some outside opinions and maybe the goods and bads of each gun.
Anyone have experience with either or both guns?

I do not own either, but have been looking into the SA RO. It is purpose built as an entry-level pistol for Bullseye matches (and CMP pistol etc...). It meets the service pistol requirements, so can be shot in any match, with all the things that are permitted in these matches (adj sights etc...). It was recommended by several to me for that reason.

If you are looking for an EDC piece, I am not sure the RO would be the one you seek.

Nice choices but I can't help either. I have 1911's in the SIg and Ruger flavors, both fantastic guns and the Ruger is pound-for-pound the best deal as far as features vs price goes. Let us know what you decide.

I have to bend over too far

      I get a boner.

I have the regular R1 and I had the compact range officer. Both great guns. I still have the R1 and have done work on it as far as the trigger and some other cosmetic changes. I plan to swap out the hammer soom. For the price of the 2 guns you can't go wrong with either. If you want to do some customization then get the base model R1 and go crazy. One thing the Remington is a series 80,and the Springfield is a series 70. Keep in mind that I also have upgraded the Range Officer to the Springfield Trophy Match and have finally worked out the problems that I was having with the gun.

I read some reviews that suggest the new Colt Competition pistol might give the Range Officer a run for it's money. The sights appear to be less competition oriented than the RO though.

I would love to throw some advice but only have old 1911"s, over half are custom target and hard ball competition guns I purchased from a friends widow. My others are all Series 70 or earlier except for a Colt in 9mm and one in 10mm, If you plan on changing things out down the road, stick with the 70 series and don't pay up front for features you will change out later.
I must say I love beavers.

B, he's about 10 minutes from me. Hook up and we can hit the range.
