  • 80% 1911 kit for $275 on fundable.com

Looks like a pretty good deal for the price. Comes with everything you need to finish except jig. Giving it some thought. What do you think?
Doing 5 kits for $1,280 and 10 for $2,060. Avid Arms group buy? Just need someone to custom engrave the blanks prior to milling.

How does this work under NY law? At what stage in process do you need to add to permit and how do you go about this without a transfer? Is the final milling really done by hand (talking about slide and barrel cuts)? Looks cool.

If I had my permit I'd definitely be up for a group buy!!
I could be wrong...it's happened before and it'll happen again.

            And therein lies the rub......

I would think that in NY, the exact second you finish that last operation with the jig you will be in felony possession of a firearm, possession of an unregistered handgun, etc, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I am completely down with an building 80% pistol and would love to do it but until someone finds an official legal statute/document that explains the lawful process for doing so in NY I'm going to have to sit this one out. FUAC.

I almost think you would need to be licensed to manufacture in order to do this, no?

I'll do some research but my understanding is that you can construct a firearm for your own use provided you are not in the business of manufacturing. As said by others the rub is in how you get it on permit without stepping in the bear trap.

Don't know the rules but would be surprised if that would fly with a handgun in NYS

I would imagine you may be able to build it, serialize it, get it to a friendly FFL (without getting caught in possession of it), have him put it on his books, submit paperwork to the county and get it registered to your permit, bring your coupon to the FL, and then have the FFL do the BG check and hand you back your gun. Serialization for the purpose of registration defeats 99.999% of the reasons I would want to build an 80% firearm in the first place.

Sorry, in a free state it makes sense. In NY? Fugetaboutit!

Of course it would be awesome to have a pistol with the serial number ANDREWCUOMOLICKSDOGBALLS registered on my permit.

According to ATF no federal license needed for making a firearm for personal use. Now to find out about NYS process if it exists.
