    ATTENTION LICENSED HANDGUN OWNERS
In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO.
I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it.
I also want to remind all Police/Peace Officers both active duty and retired to please carry a weapon whenever you leave your house. We are the thin blue line that is entrusted in keeping this country safe, and we must be prepared to act at any given moment.
    Thank you,
    Paul J. Van Blarcum
    Ulster County Sheriff

Saw a news article about this. It's kind of sad that a Sheriff offering pragmatic advice to the community is newsworthy these days.

Wait...what?! A pro gun sheriff in New York? This can't be true!

      /sarcasm

This is my guess why it's making news. I've seen this pop up a few different times on FB today.
I could be wrong...it's happened before and it'll happen again.

Let's see how many other sheriff's jump on this bandwagon. Nice to see Sheriff Van Blarcum step up like this.

Do we have any proficiency instructor/trainers in our membership. What I'm getting at would there be enough interest for our members to put together some training at a resonance cost or possibly little cost for ourselves and families.
I know.there is a ton of training available out there but the associated cost go up fast when multiple family members start attending said courses of instruction.
I would prefer that my wife get the training from someone else than me much the same as teaching your kid sething, they just seem to absob more of it when it comes from someone else.
I must say I love beavers.

Have her read this, not as good as actual instruction but will get her shooting better instantly.

I've spoken with Chris Fry about this in the past and believe he would be up for a private class at reasonable rate if we get enough people together. Obviously having a place to host course is the major factor as far as cost goes. I'd be up for taking my wife if we ever do something.

I know Chris has an on going relationship with the New Paltz gun club, I'm sure he could get in there.
My issue is that my wife does not have her pistol permit ....

we will need a separate class for my wife and for my girlfriend.

                    Great idea.

FYI - My son turns 21 tomorrow - for his birthday I have agreed to pay for his pistol permit.

It would be great if wives and girlfriends went, maybe a separate class for them, sounds like a weekend event.
