Congrats in joining the 1911 ranks, you wont regret it. To me they are more fun to play with and customize than the AR platform, but that is me and coming from a guy who has to look at his permit to know how many 1911's he has, the calibers are easy, .22, .38 super, 9MM, 10MM and .45, just more of some than others. One of the nicest and most accurate is the .38 super, just plain fun.
Next start with a frame and build your own match gun, nothing too crazy, try it in .38 super and throw and Ultra Dot sight, no other red dots but an Ultra Dot, you will surprise yourself and be grinning from ear to ear.
My next one will be a Damascus Caspian, look them up, you'll love it or hate it, all in the eye of the beholder.
