This is my first review of any gun I have ever owned.
Please bear with me. Last year I was looking to pick up my first 1911. Having owned several 9mm and 38 handguns before I was getting tired and bored with shooting the same thing over and over. My search brought me to the Remington 1911 r1 s. My preference is a stainless steel gun hence the "s" model.
I went to collector arms I Rockland County and looked at several 1911 models from several manufacturers. The owner worked with me lining up the guns and taking the time to answer any questions I had no matter how stupid or repetitive they were. Finally after about an hour and a half he asked me what I thought of the guns. I gave him my opinions and pretty much told him what I wanted to spend and where I was going with the purchase. Very patient and nice he pretty much explained that no matter what I bought the 1911 was like the AR. Almost everything was upgradable and with basic gunsmith knowledge could be done by me. Then he took the guns in my price point and said if I had to make my decision right now what would I pick. After about 2 minutes I pointed to the R1. He then put the other guns away and handed me the paperwork. 10 minutes for the paperwork and a 5 minute NICS check and he told me to enjoy my new toy.
The next day after work I broke it down and gave it a good cleaning. 2 days later time to shoot it. My father and I headed to the range and decided to put some holes in paper.
My first impression after the first round was that it was so nice to shoot a handgun without a 12 lb trigger pull. My second impression was that I didn't do a good enough cleaning. So on the bench I cleared the weapon and broke it down for a quick touch up. After that I put about 300 rounds down range. The gun was tight in the slide but there was a little wiggle when firing it when it cycled.
Being the people person that I am I approached another guy on the line with a much more sophisticated 1911 and told him my issue. He looked at the gun and then suggested a full length guide rod but only after I shot the gun a lot more.
Here is the gun when I bought it.
