  • Psychology and carrying...

I remember when i first started carrying. The weight of the world was on my side. Everybody "knew" I must be carrying. Wasn't it obvious?

Then I checked and it was there. Just as it always is aside from the weight of the world.

LOL. Like everything else in life it becomes second nature. Is as it always should have been. Don't let the mainstream media convince you otherwise.

    Carry on!

Yea I think everyone goes through that at first and after carrying for a little while that uneasiness goes away. I would be more worried if someone didn't feel that way when they first start carrying.

Well worry about me then, lol. I open carried long before I concealed carried. It was nothing new to me. I grew up with a gun on my hip, wearing a jacket over it wasn't anything special.

I feel really weird when it is not there. Like I am missing something. Like when carrying a rifle or pistol overseas, the only time you don't have it on you is when you are in the shower. It is a very strange feeling at first when you are back home. Every now and then you realize you are not carrying your rifle and you freak because you think you put it down somewhere and left it. Talk about an adrenaline rush.

Yea but that is an exception lol, I remember when I got out and started working I had my radio on my belt where I had the drop leg holster attached while in. I found myself resting my hand on the radio for a while because that is what I did with the drop holster... I usually had my hand resting on the pistol if I was just standing around.

But for most people you go through that stage of uneasiness and I am sure you even did originally when you first started carrying even if it was in the Military for fear of safety violation or something LOL.

Well carrying in the Military my main fear was losing the weapon. Lol I didn't want to get an ART15 for loss of a sensitive item. It was the same thing about night vision googles, bayonets and gas masks. You didn't want to lose your equipment because of the potential loss of rank.....

Yea that reminds me lol. I once got called in on my off time between shifts because I "lost" an ASP (baton) . I went in there and told them I had turned it in but since I was the last one to sign it out and it wasn't in the armory they were blaming me. They recalled everyone in my group to start searching for it. They were starting to write up some paperwork after a couple hours of not finding it and sure enough they didn't bother checking the people on duty because one of them had it and never signed it out.

Acrually when I am not carrying I feel naked. I feel exposed.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

When I first started CC'ing I remember very little concern about others seeing it or printing. I'm one of those geeks that has been doing slight of hand/magic since I was a kid. Making things 'disappear' was always 2nd nature to me. Always felt comfortable carrying. I've put an incredible amount of thought into the scenarios that I would draw and be prepared to defend, but that is different than being 'outed' by a passerby.

Only had that happen once - in Syracuse at a convenience store in the 'Hood - white dude bumped my right side (OWB), said "Nice cell phone", and kept going. Could have been UC.
