OK while this is coming together can a one recommend a good resource on how to build a 1911? I'd like to start reading up on/learning the steps to do it so it's not such a black box. Did the same years ago with an AR build (back before the boating accident) and found some good resources. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately big cost will be up front for slide and receiver. Then its manageable after that. This is purely a guess but figure $400 - $500 for customized slide with engraving, etc. $250 - $350 for custom receiver. Then $50 -$150 per month until we reach about $1200 - $1500. Not sure if slide/receiver will be done together or separately. Again, this is just a guess.
Also we need to look into if they will allow people to add or delete options or if they all have to be the same. For example if you stick with standard top, front and side serrations, it could reduce the cost by 50% or more. Edit, cost savings will only be on the slide, other parts will pretty much be the same and don't have options. Still looking at at $1,000 at end of the day, minimum. USMC is still looking though and might find something less expensive.

The main thing would be to come together and figure out a time when it would work for people interested. So possibly after tax return time. So before you can do any work on building it you need the Frame and Slide then you add pieces.
I actually started a thread asking how to build one here http://www.nyshenaniguns.com/forum/g...o-i-build-1911 .
So as far as the big cash parts it's going to be the slide and frame. we need to decide if we want to do both at once or get one then other and after that buy the individual parts to complete.
Still hoping that we can get someone on here who has built them before to help out with all the questions I am sure we will have.www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

I want to build one also but I don't think my old lady is gonna let me spend that kinda money on it. Especially since im in the market for new job, need a truck to tow the boat in about a month and all the expense that comes with that. FailThey can't stop us let them try. My 2 cents: I really don't think you want to do this as a build. You probably want to do it as a commemorative type model. That way everyone gets a working gun that is not a Frankenstein for lack of a better word. I am planning on building 2 1911s this year, probably on caspian frames with the serial numbers personalized to my kids with their initials and birthdays. As it is those guns will cost over 1K each. Might I suggest contacting Kimber, Ruger, Para or Sig for a price quote for engraving on a standard model.

My Ruger commander SR1911 cost 695.00 you could add engraving on top of that and end up below 900 before taxes and transfer fees. The plus side to this is a gun that has a factory warrantee, possible sequential or special serial numbers, professionals putting all guns together, collectors value and piece of mind for those who are unsure about building one themselves. Since Ruger also makes rifles those who do not have a pistol license could get in on the deal too.

While I hear what you're saying, the thing I like about it personally is the idea of building it. I think USMC thinks this way too... As for others, completely agree with the idea of not getting into something you won't be able to complete.

I wouldn't be opposed to doing both but have to pick one or other at the moment can't do both at once myself.www.AvidArms.com I'm STIHL out of conditioner!!

Erin just got home from work and I ran it buy her and she was not thrilled about it. She also reminded me that my mini 14 was still at accuracy systems and I owe them $1,100 on top of the other stuff I mentioned above. Said I could probably do it if we did something cheaper.
I dont have a glock and there is some nice stuff out there for them. What about one of those? They can't stop us let them try. For heavy metal we will die!!!
