Start with slide, next frame, then grips, barrel, internals, trigger group, sights etc. We can stretch it out over year or more so its not such a big hit all at once. Can start private thread for participants where we can discuss ideas deals on parts design etc...
I like the build idea too.

Sounds like a great idea, just too far out of my spending wheelhouse right now.

I like the build idea- if it was stretched over time. Like many, money is tight,

OK sounds like general consensus at this point is a build.

So if your interested and haven't chimed in please still do. Maybe we can find a resident builder who can help walk us through the build process as well.

When I get a price check I'll check out total price for frame and slide together and also separately.

I'm thinking we go with Caspian

While I really like the idea to build a custom 1911 over time, let me confuse the issue by suggesting another alternative

Bud's sells Girsan branded guns from Turkey for a very reasonable price (start at $419 blued and $443 chrome) that get good reviews (97% four or five stars on the blued, 99% on chrome). Girsans come with Bud's satisfaction guarantee (repair, replace or refund)
All GIRSAN firearms are 100% guaranteed by Buds !
If you have ANY problems with a GIRSAN, Bud's will provide your choice of...

                    1. Full Refund
                    2. New Replacement
                    3. Warranty Repair

When you buy a GIRSAN...buy with 100% confidence your satisfaction is guaranteed by Buds !
Can pick up these "entry level" 1911s and customize through engraving, cerakote etc. and NYSG peeps can upgrade parts/options if/when they choose. There are probably other makers of entry level 1911s to look at but thought I would throw this out as something to consider.

I have an ATI that is an amazing gun. I would say the fit and finish is on par with $1000 guns. The slide fitment to the frame is perfect.

Thanks. If we're going to do a NYSG custom gun I prefer that it not start out as something cheap and definitely prefer it to be made in USA. Just my opinion open to what others have to say about this.

Like I said earlier heard back from Caspian and they said we could always go with Foster Frames. They are the exact same thing as the Caspian ones except with blemishes. They also said that if we have a FFL willing to help out they could get a discount plus it sounds like they would be willing to give an additional discount for preferred customer. They thought it sounded like a really cool idea as well for a forum to do a group build.
