  • Showing off the new acquisition

Well, since CGrutt needed to show off his new O/U, I'll start off the handgun forum with my revolver.

Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 629 .44 Magnum Hunter. 7.5" barrel (not including compensator). Hogue grip, two-tone black and stainless finish. Trigger on single action is ridiculously smooth and light, having been tuned. Comes with a UTG red dot/green dot collimator sight for the top rail.

I'd been looking for a used classic model 29 in the 8 3/8" barrel, but when I came across this at Tri-County Sports in Patterson, I decided to modernize....

I guess I'm on a wheel gun spree now. Other than an FNH FiveseveN, there's not much out there in autos that I'm really interested in. Plus, 5.7x28 is not that easy to get, and almost not worth the trouble to reload.

I'm actively looking for an S&W R8 M&P (Model 327) in 357 magnum as the next on the list...

Looks awesome! Forgot about Tri County, haven't been there in years. It's calling to me saying it wants a Burris FastFire. They call me the gun whisperer lol!
I bought my sons out of state.

I'm a big fan of collimator sights. I've got EoTechs on most of my long stuff. I'll be trying it out (after I'm sure its sighted in) next week and keep you posted, but I expect good things.

Tri-County is a good place. Joe, the owner, is a good guy, and knows marketing...aside from him, he's only got hot women behind the counter. He knows that sex sells I guess, lol. Besides that eye candy, he seems to stock more high end goodies than utilitarian items. You can also browse most of his selection on Gun Broker, which is linked to his store page.

I've never seen that setup before and have to tell ya.... I'm digging it.

Not at first but it grew on me.

Same with me. I was really looking for the blued Model 29 classic. The more modern tapered underlug sort of put me off at first. I have a S&W 686 Plus Pro-Series in 5" that has a similar underlug, but the angle is steeper and (to me) appears more aesthetically pleasing than the slope over 7.5". So, I kept looking for the classic 29, mostly in the 8.375" range. I saw a few, and was getting ready to drop down on one, when I checked Tri-County's inventory again. He had had a 7" 629 Stealth Hunter in Black Satin 2 months ago. It was gone but this the Magnum Hunter 2 tone was there, along with a .460 XVR 14.5" w/bipod, but...maybe later, lol. Anyway, I looked at this Hunter and said: I like the utility of the top rail, I'm all about collimator sights and it comes with a free one (which, if I don't like, I can always put one of my EoTechs on it), its compensated (which makes it nearly the length I'm looking for) and it's a custom job from the Performance Center! SOLD.
