So today is my b-day and my lovely wife has plans to take me out to lunch. A short time before we were going to head out I get a call from my favorite FFL that lives down the street. I try to give him all of my business and we have an agreement that he will call if anything cool or unusual comes in.
"I got something in today that I think you'll want to take a look at?"
"What is it?"
"I can't say - I'd rather you come in to take a look at it." (He lives a mile or so down the road so it's easy to swing by on short notice.)
"OK but I'm about to head out for lunch with the wife. OK if we swing by on the way?"
"I'll be here."
My mind starts racing about what it could be because we talk about the guns I'm interested in: 6" Stainless Colt Python like Rick uses in The Walking Dead (really want one but the prices are crazy)? Original M1 Garand at a deal of the century price? Mossberg SA20 with pistol grip for HD? Etc., etc.. A few minutes later we're out the door and down the road and I'm wondering what justification I'll have to come up with to buy whatever he has waiting for me. When we arrive there's an open black pistol case with a shiny jewel sitting on it that I have at the top of my list - a stainless Kimber Raptor II.
The pistol is a gorgeous 8+1 with zebra wood grips and Tritium night sights - has a 5" match grade barrel and the serrations on the slide front, rear and top look awesome. I tell wifey that my FFL is like a crack dealer and has me on the hook like an addict. I pick it up and it feels great. Slide is nice and snug, fit and finish is terrific. Knowing how much these pistols go for if you can find one, I break down and ask the question - "OK it's beautiful - how much do you want for it?" He looks at me and says "Nothing - it's all yours!" He turns and smiles at my wife and she has a huge grin. "Happy Birthday!"
When I was through fondling it we took the paperwork straight to the Dutchess County Sheriff's office on the way to lunch. So excited to pick this up and hit the range. They said amendments are running 2 to 3 weeks but may be longer with the upcoming holidays. Here's hoping the judge wants to have a clear desk before the holidays and cranks out the amendments waiting! So a great day so far with dinner and cake tonight. I'm a happy guy.
