  • Drills for working on Trigger Control

Thought I would start this thread so we could collect some knowledge here and help out some shooters!

One drill I know for working on trigger control is to take a coin and either balance it on the barrel (If its rounded, won't work on Glock slide lol) or on the front site post.

Once you have done this you want to carefully bring the Firearm (in a safe condition to dry fire) up into a firing position without it falling off.

Now that you are in your proper shooting stance (always want to do everything properly even when just dry firing to build muscle memory and improve everything at once while not creating bad habits) Slowly squeeze the trigger until the hammer/striker (or whatever) falls. If you did it properly your coin should still be balanced. If not the coin will have fallen and you need to keep doing it until you can consistently dry fire without coin falling.

    Good Luck!

Anyone else have any other drills specifically for trigger control?

Am I short stroking or going to fast?

Not specially trigger control but just remembering there is a trigger reset on most guns is a huge plus on follow up shots. Don't release all the way! Just enough to feel click then gently squeeze off next round don't jerk!

How much pressure with each hand do you use? I do best with 20% pressure from firing hand and 80% from support hand.

Great point about the gaps between your hands..... don't want them because it will try and move to place of least resistance.

I use probably about that maybe 70/30 and almost white knuckle with the non dominant pressure

Something I see alot of is what we call happy finger! releasing the trigger to soon! A good way to build muscle memory is with a ball point pen, Click it and hold it and again! you can do this anytime

Our med scanners at work have triggers on them and shoot a beam of light and what could possible pass for sights if you use your imagination. Sometime I'll dry fire in a patients room if they are sedated, my co workers are alll WTF is that, than they realise it's just me

The indoor range I go to is usually deserted, so I shoot forward of the line at about 20' with half-size NRA silhouette. I'll load, assume stance and aim. Then I close my eyes and shoot slowly, feeling the reset. Slowly, my grouping was tighter, more centered, and my speed (with accuracy) improved.
