That's a toughy...... Honestly I would recommend shooting both eyes open, that's my next thing to learn. It should make your issue moot and its better to have more situational awareness especially if tunnel vision sets in during an actual emergency.

Both eyes open. Strangely enough, I shoot long gun left-handed but pistol right-handed (and most everything else right-handed too....except when I want it to feel like somebody else is...nevermind, I digress). When shooting rifles I have to close my right eye but shooting handguns I keep both eyes open. You have to consciously Peshitta focus to your dominate eye but it definitely helps to force you into focusing on that front sight.

I've been forcing myself to shoot with my non-compliant eye, but I'm tired of shooting the bottom left corner off my targets.
What do people think about using non-compliant eye and just aiming high right?
Or what about adjusting sight to suit my eyes?

If you don't want to shoot both eyes open then it really comes down too what is most comfortable too you that you can do consistently.

So in that case I would probably just adjust your sights. Its going to be more costly since you will probably need to swap out sights on everything to be consistent. Kentucky windage is not really a long term solution and if you do ever have to shoot in self defense your not likely to be thinking about whatever your hold should be.

I had an idea for a new type of sights. The concept is not new and based in the fact taht aiming is a worthless tactic. One should rather focus and pointing with a general field of view and orientation. I think by focusing on the angles and the target one can really master rapid tatget adquisition and accuracy. Not the type of accuracy to do score shooting but to consistently put rounds on a 4 to 8 inches circle. This is the same technique we use with tactical shotguns that even w.o sights or just a small beed in the front becomes a fast and effective weapon including with fas moving targets. There is no point in aiming, you point and lead when necessary and condition the brain to match target visualization with holding angles and estimated poi.
So any sighting system that provides natural and easy angle references can be a lot more effective than the finest sights. Again the key is to take the brain away from sights and into the target. Those who are using a dot the i system might already get a sense for this but even this continues to leave a lot of room for improvement.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

I'm left eye dominant and right handed. I've tried shooting right handed and using my left eye with poor results, but I'm not that great with a pistol to start with. I might have to try it again.

Most of the time I put a blinder on my safety glasses over my left eye. Works for target shooting but obviously it's not a solution for self defense situations.

One drill that I have found that works to cure recoil anticipation is the loaded/unloaded drill.

Your range partner hands you the gun or leaves it on the bench, you don't get to watch to see if there is a round in the chamber or not. All you are supposed to do is pick up the gun, aim and squeeze. The only time you know if it was loaded is if it went bang. i have used this drill to cure a lot of people's tendency to jerk the trigger or dip the muzzle when firing handguns or large caliber rifles.

I use a similar drill by loading a dummy round in a magazine with live rounds.

Thanks. Was over at the bar and ended up squeezing my trigger too quickly.

The guy I've been shooting pistols with lately does most of his practice with his CCW pistol since he figures that's the one he needs to be good with. It got me thinking about how I most likely won't have contacts in or safety glasses with a blinder on if a self defense situation arises. So I started shooting right handed with both eyes open and sighting with my left eye. I'm still shooting with more of a target mindset than a self defense mindset, but practicing USMC's tips appears to be paying off. Shot this five shot group with the 1911 at about 25 feet. Now I need to back the target up to closer to the 50 feet it was intended for.

Nice shooting! If you want to practice for real world SD scenario I would recommend doing wind sprints until you're completely exhausted and then try to dump a full magazine into a paper plate at 3 yards as fast as you can pull the trigger.

50' is a long defensive shot. 25' sounds much more realistic. That's a helluva group. Nice job! I wouldn't want to be that paper
