  • Les Baer Premier II 1911 Failure to Feed, need help.

I have been getting some failure to feeds where the round is at a 45 degree angle and not chambering. This has happened sporadically regardless of the magazine used. It Has also happened in a 90 degree angle as well. In the picture below it shows the bullet itself sticking out of the slide. I have never seen this or heard of this before. Any idea on the cause? I had added some lube to the rails a few magazines before this occurred if that may be the issue but I Have no idea. I have since bought a new spring but don't remember if I installed it or not hoping that might fix the issue.

Have not shot it in a long while so I assume its still going to do it. I was shooting 230 grain speer FMJ rounds when these occurred. Anyone have any suggestions or in the Rochester Area that would be willing to go shoot it with me and try and figure it out?

    Thanks!

Oh and I have about 700 rounds through it so it "should" be broken in at this point right?

Does it happen randomly or when, for example, there is only one or two rounds in mag? I've read about weak mag springs causing that FTF in 1911s. Nose up usually occurs when mag is on or near last round. Nose down when mag is full. Both cases are caused by weak or damaged mag spring or bad follower.

Happens randomly and is not magazine dependent. I have tried different manufacturer magazines as well and it does not seem to matter which one I am using. But it does usually happen with 1 or 2 rounds left.

I know the answer, but it begs to be asked, any chance there was some 'limp wristing' going on?'.

It is possible, I know I do it on occasion when I get hit in the face with brass but don't remember that being an issue when it happened. Also it seemed to happen with 1 or 2 rounds left in magazine typically.

Again I am no expert by any means but thinking that would mean it should be the recoil spring and or magazine spring right? Since it is happening with all magazines then should a weaker recoil spring fix the issue allowing slightly more time for the next round to see fully?

Contact Les Baer. I bet they would want to take a look at it.

I just sent them an email asking for their input on it.

Mu first thought it bad mag, but you said you tried a bunch of mags, second thought is limp wrist.

also, you could possible have a batch of horribly underpowered ammo and its short stroking, or a really stiff spring, but you have rounds through it alread and springs don't get stiffer.

The ammo I bought is from same lot. I bought 1000 rounds at once. Doesn't feel underpowered especially considering it cycled the slide when it was a ***** to rack to the rear at first. Is something to consider though.

Oh for what it is worth I have noticed that the casings will eject anywhere from 3 to 7 feet but in same direction. I don't think the extractor is to tight though from what I remember testing it with snap caps.

Any 1911 people in Rochester that want to go shooting to make sure it is in fact not just me?

When and where? You bring your over-priced, unreliable, pretty-boy, piece-of-sht 1911 and I'll bring my Ruger. (I kid....I lust after a Les Baer, it's just jealousy speaking) Seriously, I have had feed problems with my Ruger but it's only with the cheap-azz Brownells mags, the factory ones feed fine. Let's go shootin!

                            I get a boner.
