  • What is your Magazine Loadout?

Just curious what types of rounds you use in different calibers for your handguns and if you mix and match the types of rounds in the magazine? For example the first couple rounds are hollow points followed by FMJ's in case you need more penetration?

Nothing but hollow points to stop the threat, if I am far enough away that I need penetration or long-range accuracy I'll be nothing but asses and elbows to the threat anyway.

Are you sure there is never a circumstance where a FMJ might be beneficial? If someone attacks you with a firearm I bet after you draw out they are going to take cover and if they don't retreat and you can't do so safely you might want that extra penetration right? After all if were playing the odds here then most likely if you have to draw and shoot then its probably going to be against 1 or maybe 2 people. How many rounds of hollow point will you really need? Maybe back up mag with more hollow points and some FMJ?

Isn't it better to have and not need then to need and not have?

If I was ever involved in a firefight, I have to seriously doubt that I would be able to count how many rounds I've expended, what type of round is next up, is that the one I want? etc..... I would hope my train of though would be more along the line of if I'm not shooting, I better be reloading. If I'm not reloading, I better be moving. If I'm not moving, I'm probably already dead.

Not to mention, my OCD will not allow me to load mix and match ammo into the same mag.

Federal +P+ in my Glocks, need more of that, down to 3 mag fulls. WInchester Ranger 230 in my XDs 45 and a few mags with HOrnady 200 gr +p, WInchester Ranger 115 in my Diamondback and my Taurus. Golden Sabre in my S&W M&P 40, if I have an EBR it would be green tips and if I had a 308 battle rifle it would be Blacks tips as both those loads will defeat IIIA body armour with trauma plates as well as ballistic shileds some bad guys have been know to carry, but, I dont have rifles chambered in those calibers. And My mossy shotgun has PMC 00 Buck.

357SIG underwood (the true and original) or Corbon 9mm +P+. Also some double tap full power.
for rifle the list is too long. But nothing beats lapua or 308 or 223 federal gold match in terms of consistency.
                      I love 80gr double tap for 223r.

I agree learn how to shoot and move and seek effecitve cover. then reload. ...otherwise you are screwed.

Those youtubers could use a quality one on one about proper bolt action marksmanship.
They would learn more from a veteran in a couple of hours than the rest of their lives screwing around...

There are classic actions that lend themselves to be a lot more versatile and reliable to apply effective bolt action speed...
Different styles can be seen at the mad minute myth. Marine marksman train like this with the remington 700. This platform is hard to beat
but do not forget savage, browning, AI and even the sako/tikka with a nice thrown.
In the classic department the enfield continues to be a nice option but like many bolt actions with
                        its limitations as explained here...

In my XD 9mm sub-compact I use Federal 9mm HST 147 gr +P exclusively. Got these before the ban, but they can be ordered. Now that I'm bringing my P12 back on line I'm considering 2 loads - the Federal HST 230 gr +P and/or the Hornady Critical Duty 220 gr +P.

Although you guys probably know the site, I use the ammo tests done by tnoutdoors9 on youtube. They are very well done IMHO.

Handguns are only a tool to help you fight towards a real weapon, a rifle. If they don't go down with the first few shots I will be reaching for my rifle.
