  • .38/.357

It looks like I'm going to be taking a newb to the range. I just wanted to confirm: any .357 can shoot .38 special too? There aren't any special .357 revolvers that aren't supposed to shoot .38?

Correct. since the 38 is shorter the bullet will jump longer until meats the cone of the 357.
But other than that is the same diameter and rim so you are ok.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I wanted to be absolutely sure before I tell someone else to do it.

I was so tempted to mess with you here.....It would have been unwise.

Oh!... all 38 bullets should be within saami specs ... and loaded from the muzzle!

naw.....just heard a story that SOMEONE (naturally, not ME) snuck a few .357 Magnum shells into the box of .38 SPC shells. Makes for fun yuks when the 18" flame jet suddenly shoots out of the muzzle, IF you have an experienced shooter (according to that story I read....or something....).

The GCL indoor range rules don't limit caliber. They just say you can't use anything that shoots above 1500 FPS. It looks like .357 loads can sometimes exceed that but it's specific to the ammunition and barrel length. Anyone know of someone shooting .357 indoors? Guessing a compact revolver would keep the velocities down, but the noise would be brutal. I'm definitely going to recommend .38 special rounds to the newb, but if he's only got .357 would it even be allowed?

I don't remember seeing a chronograph on the indoor range at GCL.
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

                  I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

to get 1500+fps you need something like 125gr jacketed bullets. That's even from a 6" barrel, IIRC.

Magnum indoors should be quite the hoot! You said he's a noob.... might stay that way after that.

get some 38spc lead target loads. They kick about twice a 22lr. shoot'em all day and never notice.

I do not shoot my 357SIG glock there for that reason. I think the back stop is not designed to take that abuse and they want those plates to last. At 1500fps already puts a dent on the hot rolled steel.

I've got multiple reasons to talk the guy into shooting. 38 special loads. Just inquiring in case there is some big reason he can't get any.

Lots of 38 lead bullets out there. IMO do not shoot lead if you can avoid it.
In many places is already banned indoors.
                          I hate lead loads.

yeah we do this for fun, have your buddy load your 357 with 38 or 357, but usually a mix. you don't know which you're going to get next!

My wife's cousin did that to her dad with 12 ga magnums years ago. Problem was he had just gotten back from rotatacuff surgery. He didn't think it was funny... One thing if you know about what not to expect I get that but definitely not cool to f around with people when it comes to guns.
