  • 80% lower receivers sellers and fabricating at home

Has anyone done much with 80% receivers? There seems to be alot of interest around about ownership and legality especially with California passing the new law requiring serial numbers.
Daytona Tactical has some good deals on lowers and jigs but I am saving up for the Modulus Heavy duty jig I'm just wondering should I wait for tax time or do any here think we will see Safe act 2 with 80% lower rules like California?

No I have not looked into 80% ones but I have been considering 0% lowers.

I think 0% is easier with a hobby mill.

Those are cool too. It is a matter of having the time. Perhaps put that in the list for retirement projects.
Between wildcats, making barrels, etc.. is already crazy enough.

Yes something like that. You know there is a very fine line between hobby and insanity. I think we past that point already.

If you get bored I have a threaded muzzle adapter I would love to have made. If I had a lathe and I knew how to use one and make threads I could probably hurt my self really bad then pay a machinist to make it lol

The hardest, and most expensive part about those Lego 0% lowers is the tap for the buffer tube. You'd need to plan to make a lot of lowers to make it worth the cost of the tap.
Old enough to know better, still too young to care

Camper your right the tools are expensive .The 1 3/16"-16 taps for the buffer can run $100.00 plus not to mention machining .welders and other equipment needed, but I believe the above Lego kit was threaded or there was a weldable nut I could be wrong.
The 80% seem the way to go for novices like me. Most places that sell the lowers sell jigs it is just a matter of finding the right jig.
The Modulus Arms Heavy duty jig or the 80% Arms easy jig seem to me to be the best choice for jigs because you can use a router which In my opinion is a better option then a drill press.
While a milling machine or a Ghost gunner machine are the best choices to finish a lower the router jig is the next step with the drill press jig being a last option.
With a mill there is cost and you will need some knowledge of machining and setup and alot of skill that why machinists get the big bucks (RESPECT) lol
Ghost gunner machine setup from what I read not too bad sort of a setup and walk away thing but cost is high.
Router jigs seem to be the easiest though I have heard horror stories about broken and drifting bits and jigs and routers that got away during the machining process
Finally the drill press jig requires alot of patience and really does a job on the quill bearings even a good drill presses because they are not made for side loading no matter how slow you go.
I have done the drill press route successfully but with a pistol lower in my future I am thinking milling not grinding or drilling .The Modulus will be the next purchase but the thought of a pending Safe Act 2 like Ca with the serial numbering and the recent gunsmithing regulations being thrown around concern me should I wait or buy now.Price won't go down but will there be a run on lowers and equipment or will supply dry up even will dealers stop shipping 80% lowers to NY like the AR and ammo issues we have all seen?
