  • Apex Tactical Trigger Kit for M&P9 - anyone ever install one?

I have wanted to upgrade the trigger on my M&P9 for a while now. It's my "tactical" range gun and I use it for Defensive Pistol classes as well. The trigger has always felt a bit gritty even with a couple thousand rounds through it. I picked up the Apex red anodized "Aluminum Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit" from Brownell's and have watched a couple videos on installation.

Doesn't look too difficult but would like to know if anyone has done one (or similar), what the experience was to install and finally, how do you like the trigger now?

    Danger Dave?
Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

Yep, I did mine last year. You won't regret it. It was pretty simple if you have a little mechanical inclination. Be aware that you will need to remove the rear sight. From what I understand, they can be VERY tight. I had previously purchased Tru Glo sights for mine and the LGS that I bought them from installed them, so my rear sight came off pretty easy with a brass drift and small hammer, and I never had to fight with the factory sights. You will need to get it sighted in when you're done. I got lucky and mine was spot on.

I personally noticed a HUGE difference after the kit install over the factory trigger. It's smoother, breaks predictably, and the reset is worlds better. Here's my first 15 shot group from 5 yds. (The flier was the first shot that I flinched and turned away....just in case. LOL)

Here's the video straight from Apex.

I really want to do this with my SD40VE. The trigger is horrendous. It was my fist gun purchase and I didn't have much money. I'm hoping to do the swap sometime this winter.

Decided to take a shot at installing the kit this afternoon. Went very smoothly and took me about an hour with interruptions. Followed a couple of YouTube videos which helped. Apex claims that the trigger will feel like a 1911 trigger with minimal take up and over travel. I'd have to agree that trigger feels much better than stock. Will provide a range report when I get a chance to go out. If you're holding out as you're uncertain if you can do it, don't hesitate. Very doable with basic tools.

Quick update - went to range to try it out but only had a few minutes. All I can say is Wow! What a difference. So smooth and take up and over travel virtually nonexistent. My accuracy improved off the bat as I did not have to "pull" the gritty feeling factory trigger. Often caused me to push shots left. With Apex I was dead center with less variation. Need to spend some quality time at range to really understand difference but glad I finally did it.
