  • 870 Refinishing

I'm getting a little antsy these days so I want to explore this project a little more.

I have an 870 express that just looks...like an express. I want to tear it down a bit and give it a freshening up: strip and refinish the wood furniture, and do something to the metal. I'm thinking cerakote. Any advice? Suggestions on something else? I really just want the blasted thing to not rust when I look at it funny.

What kind of finish does glock use? Most durable I have seen.

the plain jane wood on those bothered me more than the look of the metal. that said cerakote seems to be a good durable finish. brownell's has a finish, don't remember if just a stain or a hard finish but is a replica of the old winchester reddish-brown that might look good.

Yeah. It's a cheap gun with cheaply finished wood. I don't expect to turn it into a Binelli or anything, just something that looks a little better.

I had the name if the stuff Brownell's sells, but now it's slipped my mind.

Looking at some cerakote how-to's, I may need to go a more DIY friendly route with the metal finish.

If ot were me, I'd totally re-do the wood and cerakote it. That sounds like a nice little project. Prolly a few things you could do the innards as well and have yourself a sweet little machine. Go for it!!

I'd like to do some innards work but I'm not sure what to do. I've never done any internal work shy of cleaning and living. Just something to smooth it out a bit.

In the end it's still just an express, so there's only so much that's worth doing.
