This is the same pedigree but the trigger group is in its own casing and a bit backwards.
But anyway, making a stock for the other one is quite easy. By cutting the front en of one of those to match the slant angle one could mold or cut an adapter
to anchor the stock in two points. That is what I did with the saiga. But I bet you could also drive a large bolt and a pin guide using one of these and a bit of
    epoxy.

You have read my mind. I was thinking about a custom stock and how to attach it after I receive my VEPR.

Something like this, as a nod to it's 54r heritage. I would just have to locate a cracked, damaged, or bubba'd Mosin stock which would be easy!

That is a NICE looking bunch of meat!

I can still find a use for my thumb, even though it no longer has a hole to finger.

I could have been enjoying his nuts.

I don't know about the mosin. You need something with an aggressive grip angle. IMO a used contender stock is easy to retrofit and as good ergonomically if not better than the original due to that nice raised comb.

Here is a cheap plastic one to practice. This could be painted.

Yes, that is true if you are going to be using the stock as your grip point behind the trigger. What I am talking about is using the Mosin stock as strictly just a buttstock, and using a spur as the grip.

There's two different methods of attack available here. I personally prefer the more traditional look of the buttstock configuration on an AK platform in spite of the drawbacks of a spur. The Mosin buttstock just adds some flair to that. The stock VEPR furniture initially did not even appeal to me, though as I look at these rifles more and more, it is starting to grow on me.

              Still working on this.

So far, my preferred method of making it compliant so I can take possession is to fill in the thumbhole with resin or epoxy. It could be mixed with wood putty, or brown dye, or even leave it clear and embed a FUAC in the middle of the resin.

This way, there is still something to wrap the bottom three fingers around the stock for stability. The thumb would just have to rest up against the other side of the stock since there would no longer be a thumbhole to stick it through.

Leave NY. Purchase firearm. Remove buttstock from the firearm. Have FFL ship the rifle to your FFL. Drive back to NY with the buttstock. Fill in the hole with wood putty. Go to your FFL with stock. Have the stock attached by your FFL to rifle for NY compliant rifle. I am pretty sure that is a legal way to do this or have an FFL in another state remove the buttstock from the rifle. Mail the rifle to FFL and buttstock to you.
