No, they simply want a gun registry that also includes long guns so when it comes time to make you comply with a forced "buy back" of semi-autos they'll know who has what.

I don't think they are actually recording the rifles you buy like they do for pistol permit.

It’s still legs to buy long guns in bordering states, right? Asking for a friend.

Federally? Yep! and it's actually not just border states but ANY state. "By federal law, a resident of any state may buy long guns face-to-face from an FFL in any other state, providing that long gun is legal to own in the resident state."

Can't wait to see how that's going to play out. The new "iron pipeline"?

I'm sure eventually NY will realize this and about 47 other loopholes created by rushing this thing into law. F'ers never learn.

I guess it's semantics right? I believe the NY law is requiring you to obtain a permit to PURCHASE a semi-auto, not a permit to OWN a semi-auto.

There's no way they could enforce a permit to OWN unless they make you register each new semi-auto on said permit....and then how do you deal with grandfathering the 100's of thousands of existing semi-autos currently in NY'ers possession?

Officer: "I see that rifle in your possession is not listed on your rifle permit sir"......Gun Owner: "My grandpappy gave me this rifle 47 years ago when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper".

Typical NY clusterf uck when it comes to thinking through any legislation.

The law says the license is to purchase and "take possession". So I guess that closes the direct family transfer "loophole" from safe act.

"take possession" and "possess" are two different things.

I don't understand..... Firearms are illegal in NYS I thought. So does that mean if my upper is separated from a lower my lower is now an illegal firearm?

Probably. Forget all the 'common use' nonsense the Supreme Court has ruled on.

CCW training standards released yesterday, details of the requirements for both the written and the proficiency testing.

Fun fact: Concealed carry permit holders who live outside of NYC, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties are not required to take the training. That means people in the Rochester area can choose whether or not to take the 16-hour hands-on gun training that will start on September 1.

Somehow I smell another lawsuit coming, Kathy.

Yeah, it's weird that a STATE law is only applicable downstate. That doesn't fit the 14th amendment

Where does it say it doesn't apply to us in Rochester other then the news article?

Makes no sense, personally I wasn't going to do it anyways lol but now I can't annoy the Peshitta out of the state?

A statement from Rochester Personal Defense yesterday on their Facebook page

“Looks as if the NY State's Attorney confirmed what we suspected:

Current concealed carry license holders who live outside of NYC, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties are NOT required to take the training.

Only those that live in the counties listed above will need to. That is due to their county having a "renewal" system in place.

Upstate counties do not have a renewal setup.”

So does that mean that once upstate counties get it set up then we would have to comply as well?
