  • NY gun laws passed for the 2021 season and headed to lil andy for his signature

You guys are paying attention, right?

Senate Bill S13A:This legislation would create the "Scott J. Beigel unfinished receiver act," which would prohibit the possession of unfinished frames and receivers by persons other than those required to be a licensed gunsmith. It would also create the crimes of criminal sale of an unfinished frame or receiver in the first and second degree. <- No more 80% receivers!

Senate Bill S14A: Criminalizes the sale of ghost guns and requires gunsmiths to register and serialize firearms, rifles, shotguns, and unfinished frames or receivers they assemble. <- Not allowed to serialize and then sell a firearms that you personally completed from an 80% receiver

Senate Bill S1235: Establishes a 10 day waiting period for the purchase of any firearm; violations of such provisions shall constitute a class A misdemeanor. <- Just like California!

I'm kind of paying attention. I've seen some headlines, but haven't dug into the details. At this point, I have a hard time caring much.

"Oh look. More stupid gun laws."

The biggest problem law is going to be the one that allows people to sue gun dealers and manufacturers for criminal use of firearms. That could lead to a lot of gun shops closing up in the state, but we'll see how it plays out. Obviously certain state DAs are chomping at the bit to file a state sponsored lawsuit to shut down a dealer or manufacturer.

So about that 10 day waiting period bill..... This is their justification
"The purpose of this legislation is to impose a-10-day waiting period prior to the sale of any firearm as a means to improve public safety by
giving law enforcement officials sufficient time to conduct a background
check on prospective purchasers, and by eliminating opportunities for
      impulsive acts of violence."

So it sounds to me that if you already own firearms and you pass the background check instantly they should still allow you to take possession immediately. Well that is if they actually mean what they say for purpose of law. FUAC

Same argument was used by California gun owner to no avail....even though he was standing right there in front of gun counter, wearing a concealed pistol, 10 day waiting for the new one still applies. Same thing for C&R holders in CA: all C&R guns have to go to FFL (even though a C&R is an FFL) and be held for 10 days and then pass BG check before taking possession.

On the bright side, a lot of states wave the 4473 if you have a valid carry permit (my resident state included).

Funny how legislative intent only means something sometimes lol
