I have spent a lot of time working in Virginia...
    Hampton Roads, Newport News, etc
Fort Lee, Fort Meyer, Fort Story, Henderson Hall, NS Norfolk, Training Support Center Hampton Roads, Fort Hill, Fort Belviour
    all heavily conservative, and military

if this can happen in Virginia
We folks in New York are just plain screwed

i don't think we should ever expect a standard rally to make a difference in what the governor does right then, they don't give a sh1t unless they go "oh f*ck, i'm not going to get re-elected." look at any rally in history.

i think the rally's are for us, they can help us with:
      • solidarity - look at the many different ethnicities, genders, etc that came together
      • camaraderie
      • reinforcing our stances
      • in this case, show of some force - not necessarily against the state, but to prevent escalation from provocateurs
      • optics - show people in the gray area that it's ok to like guns, gun lovers aren't wackjobs
      • swing future votes
      • keep wind in our sails - honestly it looks like we just roll over way too often (NRA) - something like this should encourage people to talk, vote, join organizations, call their reps, post things publicly, etc.
I don't think they are futile, but a rally shouldn't be our only tool.

Remember when you could carry your gun in the back window of your truck? Try that in any major city in this state now and see what happens.

What's next, if we cave to political correctness, and never show a gun in public? I'll tell you what happens. The sheep become so complacent to a world with out ever seeing a gun except on a police officer that someday, if some poor schlub were to accidentally display his firearm while bringing it to the car for range day, or to go hunting, that he would get red flagged, and arrested for causing a public disturbance, probably lose his permit to own, and spend time in jail with massive legal fees.

That's what the left wants! For guns to never be seen in public, and therefore everyone would be triggered IF they did see one! That is part of the left's eventual goal, is the disappearance of guns from the public purview. That's how you kill our gun culture to future generations, that's how you sensitize the public to those evil guns where just the sight of one is enough to cause mass panic, and that's how you kill the 2nd Amendment.

        **** that.
the back window of my truck has the marks from suction cup gun racks i put in it when i bought it. my trucks before this one always had fixed gun racks. my truck is only 13 years old. in only 13 years it's changed. i bought suction cup ones because i lived in the city and didn't want them up all the time. in this amount of time though i've stopped using them entirely. it makes me cry.

my wife posted on facebook a date night we took to the range. (we love doing this together btw). you should have heard all the GUN people that have come up to her to say things like, "oh my you are brave for posting that," or "i wouldn't have shared that publicly". these are GUN people, afraid to show a date night to their friends! wtf! she wasn't posting crazy pictures of us doing anything crazy.

we need to right this cultural ship.

Is it bad that I intentionally took pictures when I took my 6 year old shooting last spring so that I could post them on FB just to piss off lib friends? Oddly enough, not a single bad comment.

I've posted pictures of my wife shooting, but I keep any pictures of me shooting separate on the team page. Even then, I'm usually the one taking the pictures instead of getting my picture taken. I could be wrong, but my perception is that a woman shooting is "empowerment", while a male shooting is just more typical white guy stuff. Plus, everyone loves my wife so she's not going to get flack for it. Not everyone loves me.

I'm reading a book that might help me get over this mindset.

nobody gave her sh*t on facebook, but in person. it wasn't so much sh*t as it was amazement that she would post something. a ton of people i didn't even know liked shooting commented and talked to us face to face to double date with us at the range next time!

i don't usually share too much of that publicly, I filter via "acquaintances" but obviously anybody can see that pages i like etc though.
i totally agree with the empowerment comment warfab, it's not the same when we post that stuff.

Looks like there might be a bit of a doxxing campaign going on against Brandon on social media. For some reason the idea of Brandon getting attacked by haters for carrying his .50 hadn't occurred to me. I was only thinking about all the positives of the press he's getting. Hopefully he's not getting harassed too badly.

In this day and age, anything that puts a spotlight on you exposed you to the possibility of that. It doesn’t make it right, but it should be expected at this point.

                    • Virginia emerges as South progressive leader under Democrats

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — In a state once synonymous with the Old South, Democrats are using their newfound legislative control to refashion Virginia as the region's progressive leader on racial, social and economic issues. Lawmakers are on the verge of passing the South's strictest gun laws, broadest LGBTQ protections, highest minimum wage and some of its loosest abortion restrictions, churning through landmark legislation on a near-daily basis.

                        • I suspect that states like Virginia will be taken back even when big cities like to impose their will on the rest of the nation.

                          • Virginia lawmakers reject assault weapon ban

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's push to ban the sale of assault weapons failed on Monday after some of his fellow Democrats balked at the proposal. Senators voted to shelve the bill for the year and ask the state crime commission to study the issue, an outcome that drew cheers from a committee room packed with gun advocates.
