“This gun violence issue is a national health epidemic in our country,” Pelosi said. “And Mr. President, if you want to talk about emergencies, this is an emergency.”

Pelosi also called for background checks on all gun sales, saying that Congress would take up a series of measures all week long taking aim at gun violence.

“It’s not about taking guns away from people. It’s just making sure that the law is effective and doing a background check in a timely way,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi also brought up the president’s declaration of a national emergency on the border.

“This is not about politics. It’s not about partisanship. It’s about patriotism. It’s about the constitution of the United States of America,” Pelosi said, adding that, under Article 1, the legislative branch has the power of the purse. “So this is not about partisanship. This is about saying we must honor our oath of office. To let the executive branch get away with this assault on the constitution, we would be delinquent in our duty to the oath of office that we take and defile the core, the heart, of the constitution, which is the separation of powers, co-equal branches of government as a check and balance on each other.”

So essentially this boils down to stripping a constitutional right from someone without them actually breaking any laws? And as pointed out in one of articles I read they aren't even going to do anything to make sure the person who they alledge is threat to themselves or others gets any help?

My wife watches the news. I yell at the news!
They were just talking about the red flag law with a school superintendent. She said that now when they indentify a student that might want to harm themself or others they will be able to prevent them from buying a firearm.
And that’s is when I started yelling at the news!

It also means that if the teachers think little Johnny is a threat........and your son little Billy is little Johnny's inseparable best friend.......and the teachers know that you have guns in your house and are worried that little Johnny may be able to get at your guns,.......the teachers can petition a judge to have YOUR firearms removed. But don't worry, it's "for the children". SMH

The New York State Legislature approved red flag legislation in the winter, and at a late February ceremony attended by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo signed it into law.

“So when the teacher sees there is a problem or a family member sees there is a problem, and believes that a person could be a danger to themselves or others they can go to a judge. And say, 'Judge, please do an evaluation,’” Cuomo said on February 25. “It is common sense. If you believe that was going to happen, why would you sit back and do nothing?”

The law takes effect on August 24.
