Prisoners living in some of the most restrictive and controlled environments on the planet manage to make shivs and improvised knives, but somehow they think they'll be able to control knife possession for an entire population of people in a comparatively free environment?? What's next? Hammers and baseball bats will need to be purchased with a background check?

i was in line in home depot the other day while a contractor was laughing having to give his id for a carpet knive while he just had a tool potentially more dangerous scanned without such requirement.
That store for example is hilarious in it's policies for employees in this regard. they aren't allowed to carry their own pocket knives. even though there are obviously tools everywhere that could be more of a danger.

anyway, we are not too far behind this insanity in many ways. my sister in law once lost it because i was staying at their house with my family and she realized i had a pocket knife. i pulled it out to actually do something useful mind you, because well, they are useful. she flipped out that there was a dangerous knife in her house that she wasn't aware of, didn't i think of the kids!? i just kindly reminded her the kitchen was feet away and there were far more deadly weapons within her children's reach in there.

she was hysterical, and she's not the only one I've seen so rabid about something this stupid.

exactly. there are knives all over everyone's houses (including hers). kitchen knives, razors, utility knives, etc.
