  • Versacarrier

I've been looking around for a magazine holster but haven't been able to find anything that doesn't look bulky. The Versacarrier looked intriguing so I figured I'd take a $20 gamble on one.

That's not a belt I carry with, but I figured I'd try to get a picture of what it looks like in use. Tomorrow will be my first day using it.

Magnets don't stick to the stainless front, and the other side is up against cabinets. Everything gets crammed into the remaining space.

This is my CCW setup after about 4 hours of wear. The position of the versacarrier will probably be a bit different when I wear pants with all the belt loops in tact.

This is my first time carrying a spare mag on my belt in any sort of carrier, so take it for what it's worth.

First off, it's not easy to get the magazine seated on the carrier. It took quite a bit of work the first time, and it still takes a bit of effort even after I've practiced with it a few times. I'm getting better, but it's a little tricky. Obviously the carrier needs to be taken off the belt to re-seat the magazine. The magazine is on the carrier and directly up against my clothes behind my belt, so in hot weather it will probably get exposed to sweat. The instructions that come with it suggest it can be worn inside the belt or inside the waistband. I'll probably stick with keeping a layer of clothing between me and the magazine.

I was worried that carrying the magazine this way would create an annoying pressure point. After a couple hours of wearing it it did start to feel annoying, but then it occurred to me to loosen my belt a notch. I was carrying everything with my belt on the same notch as if I was just carrying the holster. With the added item on my belt, the next notch looser felt much better than it does with just the holster. Overall I'd say it was perfectly comfortable once I adjusted my belt. The cool thing was that adding the magazine carrier seemed to make my IWB holster even more comfortable when driving. My big complaint so far about the IWB holster has been that it's not very comfortable when I'm sitting in my truck driving. Adding the carrier to the other side of my back did a surprisingly good job of evening things out a bit so that the holster seemed substantially more comfortable. Obviously that would be a benefit with different styles of magazine holsters too, but it was something that I wasn't expecting so I figured I'd mention it.

I've only tried drawing the magazine a couple times mainly just to see how well it released. The tension can be adjusted by using different screws provided with the carrier. I've basically only checked to make sure that I can draw it if needed. If I get a chance I'll practice some reload movements with it and share any observations I have.

Edit: Now that I've made one purchase Versacarry keeps sending me e-blasts with a discount code for 30% off. If anyone is interested in buying one let me know and I'll give you the code.

I've switched to wearing the Versacarrier IWB so it doesn't catch on my truck seat fabric as much. Other than that adjustment it has been serving me well.

My only complaint about the Versacarrier:

                Seat.jpg

I might try to round over the corners on the belt clip to put a stop to this.

                    Long term update:

Today I had a new difficulty with the Versacarrier that I hadn't experience before. I have gone to the bathroom while carrying many times in the past without issue. Today there was a problem in my attempt to pull my pants back up.

After trial and error, I've discovered that the best way to re-trou after dropping the kids off at the pool is to pull everything up at once. Pants, underwear, and holster/carrier all get pulled up at once. This avoids underwear bunching and lots of readjusting to conclude the process.

So today I'm pulling all my clothing up, and as I was doing so, I heard a "click" and felt something move. My spare magazine had popped of of the Versacarrier. I immediately froze in the position I was in. Semi-squatted with my pants like 75% of the way up because I was afraid further movement would cause the loose magazine to drop down my pantleg and clatter on the floor. I knew there was someone in an adjacent stall, so I figured having a loaded magazine fall onto the floor would lead to an awkward discussion with human resources. I stand there frozen for a few seconds and the magazine doesn't fall onto the floor. I carefully reach around to confirm my suspicions about what had happened. Sure enough the carrier is still on my belt but there's no magazine. So now I carefully try reaching down into my pants to find the magazine. I can't find anything for a few seconds and then I realize that I'm reaching down into my underwear. I'm trying to do all of this slowly and carefully to avoid having the magazine fall further. It occurs to me that the carrier wouldn't be inside my underwear since I keep it tucked IWB between my pants and underwear. So next I try to carefully reach between my underwear and jeans. After what seemed like a ridiculously long time to fish around for a magazine in my pants, I managed to find it and extract it without dropping it on the floor.

                    Op-sec maintained. Crisis averted.

I might look into increasing the tension setting on the carrier.

i can totally relate to that kind of an "oh Peshitta" situation while ccw'ing in a public toilet like that. thank goodness you were able to fish it and didn't lose it to the floor or toilet! pretty sure i would rather drop the spare mag into the toilet than on to the floor in that situation lol
