  • Concealed Carry Scenario..... What would you do?

One of the things I like to do when bored or in a situation is come up with "what if" scenarios. The following scenario is based off of a walk tonight.

So imagine yourself walking your dog in the middle of the night after getting home from work. You are carrying concealed and are holding the dogs leash in your non dominant hand so it is free if needed.

Your coming near your street at the end of your walk and a car with young people in it scream at you "Ef B's" (use your imagination).

Now lets say they stopped the car and 2 or 3 of them got out of the car and continue to shout obscenities at you for no reason as they walk towards you.

Do you try and run away? Do you tell them to get back in their car or you will take their continued action of coming towards you as a threat to your life? Do you try and De-escalate the situation?

If you try and De-escalate how close do you allow them to come to your before taking action?

At what point to your draw your firearm? What if they don't have any visible weapons?

What do you do if they continue to close the gap with you and you have drawn your firearm and they are undeterred and continue to come at you screaming at you for no reason?

Just curious on your thoughts on how you would handle a situation like this if you were put into it.

    Possible responses....
    A) Release your 150lbs presa canario.
    B) start coughing like crazy and scream please help me I have Ebola!
    C) say.. my mother in law will be here any second.
    D) shoot two rounds in the air like Joe Biden tough us.
    E) piss your pants .... that was Feinstein advice I think.

    Plenty of options....
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance

In NY I believe you would be required to retreat and get your ass whomped before you could perforate any of the hostiles. I " think " I would cross the street or turn around and walk the other way. If I was still being persued I " think " I would not let them get any closer than 50 ft., draw and put one in the ground at their feet. Still coming? Center mass or perhaps shoot to wound? Nah on the latter. In this state I'd probably end up in the hokey or a big, fat law suit against me for that action. Sorry, I'm just too old to get my ass whomped... What say you?

This will almost assuredly land you in a jail. Warning shots are a massive no-no. Same with shoot to wound.

I think it would be time to head in the opposite direction at a brisk pace, but not actually running. Keep eyes on the perps, and if they approach that 21 foot barrier it's time to draw and be ready to defend yourself with DPF.

Scan quickly for a nearby house with a light on, walk briskly towards it with the intent of pounding on the front door should the hostiles continue to follow while issuing very LOUD verbal commands so that the neighbors will hear you: "STOP! Do not come any closer!", "I said stop!", "If you come any closer I will be forced to defend myself!" repeated until they have crossed whatever you have defined as your personal line (21 feet?). Once they cross that line I would personally be in fear for my life and draw my gun fully prepared to use it. If the sight of a drawn weapon did not finally stop them, the resulting lead discharge will. I just hope that I would never ever have to be in a situation like that.

I believe you only have to retreat if you can do so with absolute complete safety to you and those around you.

Been a while, should probably go over use of force law again.

On second thought, I'd just sic my dog on them.

I was getting gas at Sam's club a couple months ago when some hick looking middle aged guy started yelling exactly that at the woman pumping gas at the pump in front of him. Up until he started yelling the profanities he hadn't said anything that I had heard. It caught me by surprise and really made me wonder what was going to happen next. This happened just as I was about done filling up my truck. After I finished I pulled out of the gas pump area and then parked in the adjacent parking lot facing the gas pumps so I could keep an eye on things to make sure the guy didn't try anything. The man finished fueling and left without incident so I headed back to work. I realized I really had no idea exactly what I would have done if the man had started approaching the woman.

I'm guessing the "ideal" personal defense situation that is totally cut and dry rarely happens. The fact that New York is so pro-criminal doesn't make things any better for CCW permit holders.

there is really no such thing as de-escalating in that situation imho.
i would try and avoid as best i could, then I would get violent.

though I am not a lawyer, whether not the 3 of them have weapons is of no legal concern once they become an actual imminent threat. that's 3 on 1, so it's more obvious that you are allowed to raise the force continuum in that situation.
now if there's only 2 of them, unarmed, and maybe they are smaller than me. then the line starts to stays blurry longer per article 35 since i'm a large individual with a rottweiler.

Not good enough. Warning shots are a bad idea all around. Personally, the biggest reason avoid a warning shot(especially when faced with multiple possible attackers as in USMC's scenario) is a waste of ammo. I only have 24 rounds on me if I'm carrying my 2 spare mags.
