Hypothetical question. If you were going to build an AR-15 (5.56/.223/.223 Wylde) from the ground up and money were no issue, what commercially available, off the shelf components would you use for the following components and why:

    Barreled Upper Receiver
    Handguard
    Trigger
    BCG
    BUIS
    Optics
    Stock
    Buffer
    Light and or laser

POU would be defensive out to 300 yards max. No long range shooting, no hunting. The 300 yard thing is a generalization. I wouldn't consider shooting someone at 300 yards and calling it defensive. So stop with that and get on with suggestions.

ETA: I'd just buy this brand of complete gun and be done with it is a fine answer, just justify your thoughts if you will.

I'd just buy this and be done with it (FN SCAR 17s, 'cause .308):

Beer is like porn, you can buy it but it's more fun to make your own

I have to bend over too far

    I get a boner.

bareback every couple of days, GTG. Bareback, brokeback, same $hit!

I joined a support group to help me deal with my social anxiety but I just can't seem to work up the nerve to go to a meeting......

If money is no issue.... I'd probably just buy a Lancer Systems Outlaw and top it with Nikon BDC scope, LaserMax laser, and offset reflex sight.

IMO there are two type of uppers everyone should consider:

        A) A light and durable carbine. Brands on receivers and other components are not important. As soon as they are up to spec these are just the shell. What is important in the AR are
the internals like a good barrel and quality BCG that is the beating heart of the AR. A quality nitrocarburized barrel mid profile with a steel gas block finned if possible and specially
stay away from the carbine porting and 1/2" threads that should have never existed in the first place. One could use a RRA NM trigger but any mil spec will do. Possibly an improved
gun fighter charging handle for asier function too. Again nothing too fancy but good internals and barrel that exceed mil-spec quality in every single aspect. For glass a 1-8 or 2-7
scope that will double for close work as well as long shots. Vortex and Weaver has both great optiosn with first focal plane. Additionally one could considered a tested piston system
like the AA or simply buy an H&K one that are rock solid.

        B) A longer barreled AR with 20"-21" barrel and mid weight profile. This can be a heavier setup that still manageable but can reach further with superb accuracy. RRA NM trigger or
otherwise Geissele like the ones in the Les baer. Again nothing too fancy just good internals. Young manufacturing groups are awesome. One could go with a mega receiver or
just a plain national match from the fulton Armory. Also no need to spend a lot in handguards. One could spend a fortune in hand-guards that add zero value to the final equation.
Also avoid 1/2" threads that are a mistake. Better spend in a quality match barrel and good internals.

No need to go nuts spending to make an AR the best it can be. Branding doesn't make an AR better.

It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance
