Eye dominance. Was I wrong?

I've always felt more comfortable shooting lefty, and even did some eye dominance tests to confirm I was left-eye dominant. However, when looking through a scope designed for both eyes open shooting, my right eye is clearly dominant. Anyone ever experience this? Is it possible for this to change?

My brother had a very similar problem. He felt comfortable shooting righty, but his left eye wanted to take over with optics/scopes. He learned to shoot with both eyes open in the Army and hasn't had a problem since. I'm not entirely sure what they did to correct that. I've always been lucky enough to be a right handed shooter and right eye dominant.

For years i shot right handed. Then at an nra small bore class the instructor was like "WTF. U ain't hitting Peshitta"
I was shooting right handed, totally left eye dominant. Can't close just my left eye. But I was tucked in close using open sights right handed. Shift to left and rocked it.

I still shoot my Marlin 60'right handed as the scope is perfect for it.
Everything else is left handed shooting even though they are all right handed platforms.
I shoot with a 517 just fine with both open.

I am right handed and shoot handgun right and am right eye dominant (but shoot with both eyes open). I have always shot long gun lefty because it's comfortable and righty feels copmpletely awkward but the cross-eye dominance becomes a bltch. I just close my right eye and can shoot pretty decently. Have you tried taping the right lens on your shooting glasses when shooting long gun and then shooting with both eyes open?

No I havent. I actually just noticed it last night looking through my Primary Arms 4x. Looking through with my left eye (with both eyes open), my target focus was a bit blurry. When I switched to my right eye, the target was crystal clear.

Im a righty for everything except shooting pool..used to close my left eye for shooting guns til I added Crimson traces now i close none

I think you might be right, but not exactly as you think. I do have astigmatism a bit, but only in my right eye. It's not overly bad though. I recently stopped wearing contacts as they have been bugging my eyes. The contacts didn't correct the astigmatism, but the glasses do.

I'll have to do some more research but you may have hit on something there.

I have age related "can't see Peshilta like I used to" eye disease, that's why I own guns that shoot big bullets.

Sounds like you might be Cross eye dominant. I am right handed but when i do the "test" i am left eye dominant. I'm useless with my left hand so i won't switch. Im sure it effects me a bit, but nothing that will matter at my level of shooting. For pistols i try to move the gun in front of my left eye and turn my head slightly. Rifles i usually close the left eye. shotguns i use both open and figure a few inches wont hurt.
