Anyone own a Marlin 1895GBL in 45/70???

I was thinking of a 1873 but Meke talked me outta it. He is right though. IF all I can do is punch paper with it then its just gonna end up being a bad investment because after about 2 range trips ill never shoot it.

Now this would be something fun to plink a few rounds with every once in awhile and is 1/2 the price.

So far it's just been a safe queen. I have the ported 1895Gwith a Leupold 2-6x on it that I have hunted and like a lot. The big loop hasn't gotten a work out yet.

I don't currently reload. I have everything I need, but have not taken the time to set things up. It's on my winter project list, but so are a lot of other things.

is it that you like boomer's hence a 45/70? more and cheaper shooting with say a rossi 357 or 44. you could go out more with less pain $.

I'm gonna reload for it so not really concerned with price of ammo. I've handled the rossi's and do not feel the quality is there. I like big bullets

I picked up a Marlin 444P which is the little sister to the .45-70. For reloads I use 240gr. .44 JHP or JSP: same as for a .44 magnum. I think they crony at 2300 fps. The ported barrel sucks up the recoil.

It's tough on the brass and I'm trimming very other reload.

7000 grains per pound divided by chosen load = powder cost per round
cost per primer
chosen bullet cost for 1
cost per brass case divided by number of times being reused.

this will give you a pretty close estimate.
