  • National Guard Confiscating Guns Ahead of Irma?

Obviously this didn't happen in Texas ahead of Harvey.

    http://thelibertarianrepublic.com/virgin-islands-allows-national-guard-seize-guns-ammo-ahead-hurricane-irma/

U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp signed an emergency order allowing the seizure of private guns, ammunition, explosives and property the National Guard may need to respond to Hurricane Irma.

Mapp signed the order Monday in preparation for Hurricane Irma. The order allows the Adjutant General of the Virgin Islands to seize private property they believe necessary to protect the islands, subject to approval by the territory’s Justice Department.

I haven't been able to find an article that explains any kind of rationale for this move. The section highlighted in red seems to indicate that the guns an ammo aren't being confiscated as some sort of safety measure (which is still dumb), but so that the Guard can actually use them??? This raises at least a few questions. A: Doesn't the national guard have their own guns and ammo? B: Who does that national guard plan on shooting with these civilian arms that they haven't had any time to practice with? C: If the governor expects things to get so bad that the Guard needs to be prepared to use confiscated guns to shoot people, is there enough of a national guard presence to ensure everyone's safety?

I could think of more questions, but they just get even more ridiculous since the entire situation is pretty ridiculous.

Zero Hedge has a scan of the actual order from the governor. It's still clear as mud and leaves an awful lot open to interpretation.

I'm unsure of how constitutional law applies to a US territory compared to a state. Even if this move passes legal muster, I'd love to hear an explanation of the thought process that led to the governor thinking this is a wise thing to do. What is he hoping to accomplish?

24, I figure it takes a lot more intelligence than I possess to expand on some of my thoughts.

As far as I know, US territories receive the exact same constitutional protections we do. Not sure how some over-zealous governor can suspend the Bill of Rights with the stroke of a pen.

If I had guns water a generator and food to ride out the storm and the government came to confiscate it and give it to people who didn't............they would be doing it from prying it from my dead hands

...politically correct provisions to appease the ignorant. Then comes the lame excuse for justification.
If he does not know how to write an order so it is not ambiguous maybe he should not have that job.
It is a shame when people demanding tolerance, have no tolerance
