    Headed right back into bankruptcy?

    I know they just emerged from bankruptcy brought about by poor business decisions over the past decade or so but it looks like they haven't learned a whole lot:

    I just purchased a Colt 1911 from a shop out in Arizona, guy had great prices and was real accommodating. We agreed on a price, I gave him my payment info, and the deal was done. Just got a call back from him, he can't get me a gun. He's a small shop with a very limited inventory and gets his stuff on-demand from a large distributor. When he ordered the gun from his distributor he was told that Colt has a recent policy that they will not provide guns to shops that are not authorized Colt retailers and who do not maintain a minimum amount of Colt inventory. The distributor told him that this recent requirement by Colt has affected dozens of other small mom-and-pop gun shops that this distributor supplies and that it appears Colt is losing both business and credibility among the Colt followers. They definitely lost my business.

    I'm kinda bummed but I refuse to pay a $200-300 premium to buy from an "authorized" (read: "large retail") dealer. Just as well, I need another gun like I need a new Easter bonnet.

    How does that make business sense? They need all the sales they can get right? Only one losing on deal is dealer who would be taking smaller profit margin to sell it to you.

      On one side they want to make sure they have a proper distribution and support network. On the other one would think hell yeah! we sell through anyone anything we have even the shop's curtains because we need liquidity!
      My advice just save a bit and get a SIG 1911. Or get a glock and buy a metal lower frame if it is metal what you like.
      Fvck colt. They got fat and comfortable and better have something with a rock solid warranty that most likely is not going to go out of business.

        Got a Sig 1911, and a Ruger 1911, and a few Glocks, etc. I just wanted a Colt 1911 Government Mark IV Series 70 for the collection. I'll just save my pennies, cross my fingers, and hope I can get one of the CMP M1911A1's someday.

          That sucks T.

          I went through something similar years ago when I had my online audio store with Cerwin Vega. They went after all the small sellers and drop shippers that were selling their items cheaper than all the big box stores. They felt that it was devaluing their product when low price points were able to be found easily online. So they cut off my supply line (along with lots and lots of other sellers) Perception is everything. I'm sure they have an army of consultants that are advising them on these types of things, so common sense is usually off the table.

            My business currently gets affected by MAP pricing too. Minimum Advertised Price is common among higher end manufacturers. Frustrates the small mom & pop's like me. Definitely lose some business.

              I've seen online shops that require you to either put it in your shopping cart to see the price, or request the price via email. It's their way around the MAP.

                Shot a friend's Ruger 1911 last weekend and was impressed considering the price point the Rugers sell at. I thought it was pretty darn nice.

                  The Ruger SR1911 is an extremely good value in the 1911 market, I've got the Commander and love it. They're also damn good lookin:
