  • Honeywell th9320wf5003 thermostat review

So as some may know I just recently installed new thermostat wire to upgrade to 5 wires instead of 3. I did this in anticipation of the the thermostat and to get fan only to work. Anyways so installed my thermostat a few days ago. It was very easy to install but it was a pain to get the wires to fit into the slide in only terminals. Other negative I noticed was that when its seated in the wall plate there is a little wiggle to it but I'm not worried about it calling off the wall. You do need a C wire for installing since it does not take batteries . What I really like is you can change background to any color so it can match the wall if you like. It's actually really helpful by asking questions to set up schedule as well and they have an app to control it from smart phones or tablets. The app allows to change temp, schedule, see outside temp but it doesn't come from actual outside sensor rather from weather website most likely. I have found temperature to be very accurate. It competes with the nest thermostat but the nest only claims a + or - 3 degree accuracy but the Honeywell is accurate to with 1 degree. Definitely room for improvement with all. I would like to see a widget created. I would also like a temperature graph included too. Another issue is whenever I try to open app with phone horizontally it crashes. Overall though I really like it and am looking forward to be able to turn on heat from bed if needed or the couch and not having to get up. This is where I got it. The description doesn't show right model number. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00G4CIG7M?vs=1

Another thing I would like to point out is the model number I received is actually the contractor model. It will also be supporting a way for your HVAC company to monitor your system I believe.

So I have had it installed now for about a week.

I have actually turned the furnace on a couple times with some of the cold weather and really liked the convienance of being able to turn on the furnace from anywhere in the house and turn it off as well. Even with a scheduled programmed if you turn it to off it won't activate if you don't want it too.

Looking forward to see how I like it this winter when its colder.

How does app talk to thermostat, through internet or blue tooth, etc? If internet, does thermostat have wireless connection to your router?

          Hmmm

I'd expect it to be BT because if it's run by wireless internet the power can go out at any time for any reason. That would be a problem, but I also imagine BT having a short range and line of sight needed for strength, of which 10yards would be max or so..and that's a problem as well with multiple floors or thick walls..but I'm gonna guess the app is controlled by 3G/LTE/internet and BT as is all these apps and new technologies, cause then the only thing stopping it from working would be loke when 9/11 happened and nobody could even text.

We have the Nest thermostat and it's pretty sweet! Uses wifi to talk to the phone. The daily report is nice because I can see when the boiler ran and I can use it to track oil usage. That I have to figure out on my own though, lol!

It operates through the internet. When you set it up for first time it gives you some unique special codes like MAC address and something else that you have to input when setting up your online account. This ensures only you have access to it over the internet. As a main account user you can grant others access and they can create their own account to control it. You can revoke peoples access as well.

The thermostat wirelessly connects to your home network.

This unit does not have batteries and runs off a C wire. It also works like a regular thermostat and if you lose internet then you still operate it locally.

Oh and go be a little more clear..... The app goes through the internet to the Honeywell website then to your home network and too the thermostat. So you could be out of state and check temp of house and turn on ac or heat. Or lets say you and family are coming home from weekend trip and you had house set to 50 degrees to save energy you could turn on heat from your phone when your 15 minutes out to heat it up prior too your arrival.

I have a fireplace and a match. Can't get more modern than that. Some of you youngsters probably never seen a match, none the less one you can light on your blue jeans. Now to think of it, didn't NYS ban the strike anywhere matches as too dangerous?

Don't think they are banned, I've used them, never light off jeans but have on zipper. Used to actually put one down bb gun barrel and shoot at ground to get them to light.
